Felix Cabrera, 86, was arrested Friday and was charged with premeditated first-degree murder, according to Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office’s online booking records.  Sheriff’s office spokesperson Teri Barbera said Cabrera had worked at Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative of Florida for 31 years, WPTV reported. On Friday morning, Cabrera was instructed to clock out and not return to work, the television station reported.

According to Barbera, Cabrera asked his supervisor if he could retain his job for another year. When the 67-year-old man (supervisor) said no, Cabrera pulled a gun from his pocket and shot the man multiple times, WPEC reported.

The sugar cane growers’ cooperative responded with the usual corporate bullshit.

Why is an 86-year old so desperate to keep what’s likely a lousy job at a sugar cane plant in belle glade florida?  Does he not have any social security after working 31 years there?  Has he been working illegally all that time so he gets nothing?

That area of FL, which should have reverted itself back to grasslands, is one horrible industry. “Big sugar” is a multibillion-dollar industry and the state produces tons of it annually. It contributes to ruination of what used to be a natural filtration system, and the worsening red tide as a result.

Anything with as powerful a lobby as the sugar industry in an already corrupt Florida is not going to offer fair employment. It never did. That industry also receives subsidies. It’s as bad as the oil and gas industry is here in PA.

We need to know more about the position of workers in this industry. I wonder if any of this will pan out…..Naaaahhhhh…

Hell, no... I'm not giving up...

🙁 This country is so fucked.

what a place. suitable for a horror movie, a vision of hell, the end of the line. imagine working there for thirty years and being told to f..k off. I understand the premeditation argument, but I’d argue it’s a manslaughter. doesn’t matter really, probably will plead out. the accused will most likely die in prison with any plea bargain.
