John Morgan confirms he’s pondering run for governor
Firebrand Orlando attorney John Morgan confirmed Thursday he is considering a run for Florida governor in 2018, throwing a wild card into a race dominated so far by traditional politicians.
Morgan, a longtime Democratic fundraiser, responded in an online post to a petition drive launched this week by Ben Pollara, campaign manager for the Morgan-backed medical marijuana amendment – which Florida voters overwhelmingly approved on Nov. 8.
Morgan did not specifically say he would run as a Democrat. But he laid out several of his key beliefs, including decriminalizing marijuana, releasing drug offenders from prison, restoring voting rights for nonviolent felons and increasing the minimum wage to $15.
He also called for eliminating state positions such as lieutenant governor and commissioner of agriculture – coincidentally or not, positions currently held by two potential Republican candidates for governor, Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera and Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam. State CFO Jeff Atwater is another potential candidate….
