They have a variety of guests & opinions. Some appear to be Biden Democrats, but certainly not all.

“The shutdown is of particular concern to Pacifica’s Black community.”

WBAI is a listener-supported New York City radio station with a 60-year history of radical political dissidence and groundbreaking cultural programming. During the 1960s it was the first to send a reporter to broadcast from North Vietnam during the Vietnam War. It was also among the first to give significant air time to Bob Dylan, and it featured the prominent voices of Black liberation including Malcolm X, Dr. Martin Luther King, and members of the Black Panther Party. More recently it has aired the voices of Black Agenda Report writers and editors, and, on Randy Credico’s show “Live on the Fly,” that of Julian Assange before his arrest and incarceration in London’s Belmarsh Prison.

On October 7, WBAI was seized by Pacifica’s Interim Executive Director and a minority of the Pacifica National Board, who took over the airwaves and the website and shut down locally produced programming, much to the dismay of its staff and listening audience. All programming produced at the station’s local studios was suspended and replaced with programming piped in from three of the other four metropolitan stations in the Pacifica Network—KPFA-Berkeley, KPFK-Los Angeles, and KPFT-Houston—along with two daily hours of Democracy Now, three daily hours of The Thom Hartmann Show, and other syndicated shows, including the Ralph Nader Radio Hour.

“All programming produced at the station’s local studios was suspended.”

There’s no evidence that the takeover was racially motivated, but the shutdown is of particular concern to Pacifica’s Black community because WBAI-NYC and WPFW-Washington D.C. have the greatest number of Black hosts and listeners thanks to their demographics, and many believe that WPFW is also targeted for a shutdown. New York City is roughly 25% Black, and Washington DC 49% Black. Houston is 25% Black, but Black voices have been less prevalent at KPFT-Houston than at WBAI and WPFW. Los Angeles, home to KPFK, is 11% Black, Berkeley 8%. KPFA-Berkeley broadcasts into San Francisco, which is 6% Black at best, and into the wider Bay Area, most of which is significantly less so. (Alameda County 12%, Contra Costa County 0.6%, Marin County 3%, Santa Clara County 3%, Santa Cruz County 0.1%, Sonoma County 0.3%, Suisun County 0.7%, and Solano County 0.8%.)

I’m going to go back and reread that – very important (for me) as I was and am still a listener of WPFW Washington, DC….A favorite broadcast which I just listened to is Garland Nixon’s ‘News and Views’ every Friday night at 7:00 p.m…..Would not at all surprise me that people want to see this go….When I was in DC, WPFW was a major supporter of the opposition to the Iraq War – countless inspirational messages/programming…..Thank you for the update and if you hear any news / updates, please keep us informed……

I totally believe this could/would happen – I’ve seen Netflix evolve and the film industry sucks – I yearn for independent ideas and escape from mass culture’s consumerist worship of sex, materialism and violence.

Maybe fucking Sinclair Propagandacasting can take over Democracy Now? Then Jimmy Dore the Boogaloo Whore might like them.

      Geezus,……

If you believed everything this fucking numbnuts has said in the last 6 months, you would believe that literal white supremacist Nazis  are more on your side than Bernie Sanders, AOC, Thom Hartmann, TYT, or now even Amy Goodman??

I’m the Devil, so I don’t expect 666% perfection from anybody, but for Hell’s sake this dragonshit is getting ridiculous.

In early June, listener subscribers and staff of the Pacifica Radio Network, which includes five nonprofit metropolitan stations, KPFA-Berkeley, KPFK-Los Angeles, KPFT-Houston, WBAI-New York City, WPFW-Washington D.C., and over 200 smaller affiliate stations across the U.S., will receive ballots to vote on yet another new set of bylaws that would largely do away with its democratic governance structure. The first attempt to do this was resoundingly defeated at the end of March one year ago. This time ballots will go out during the first week of June, and most subscribers and staff will choose to vote online.

As a longtime Pacifica programmer and listener, I am as adamantly opposed to this new bylaws proposal, as I was to the last, first and foremost because it would disenfranchise the two East Coast stations, WPFW-Washington DC and WBAI-New York City, which have the largest Black audiences, and give disproportionate power to my own station, KPFA-Berkeley. Black Agenda Radio, hosted by Glen Ford and Margaret Kimberley, airs on both WBAI and WPFW, but not on KPFT-Houston, KPFK-Los Angeles, or KPFA-Berkeley, which is not to say I haven’t suggested airing it on KPFA.

My other reasons for opposing these bylaws is that they are fundamentally undemocratic and that they will lop off Pacifica programmers’ anti-imperialist wing. In the late 1960s and early ’70s, Pacifica was a radical, antiwar, anti-imperialist network, perhaps most admired when WBAI sent the first American reporter to broadcast from North Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Today, however, much of Pacifica has—like the rest of what now passes for the left—given way to identity politics, Democratic Party politics, Trump Derangement Syndrome, and even national security state narratives. I wrote about the latter in “We Love the CIA–Or How the Left Lost Its Mind.”

The network still has an anti-imperialist wing and I’m on it, but the list of Pacifica staff endorsers makes me think that our days will be numbered if the New Day Pacifica bylaws proposal passes. There are certainly a few outspoken anti-imperialists among the staff endorsers, but the most prominent and far greater number represent the direction the network has taken since its heyday in the 1960s and early ’70s, before the national security state created NPR to counter its radical narratives. Many Pacifica programmers wouldn’t sound out of place on NPR, and some have moved on to NPR employment.

Thom Hartmann was on this morning spewing the ‘Russian Crap’ this morning, had to turn it off. Jimmy Dore is correct about this trend, and he was on KPFK on Friday afternoons, so he would be in the meetings. There were other broadcasters on KPFK spewing what can be called, “Save yourselves, vote Democrat. This is the only way out.” It really is that bad because people are making a deal with the devil.

thanks for the OP and the informative replies, @passionateprogressive and @mrdmk.

Destruction is easy; creation is hard, but more interesting.
