And as one four-star general noted plainly and disturbingly, they call into question who we even are overall as a nation.
Retired U.S. Air Force Gen. Michael Hayden, who also served as director of the National Security Agency and later of the CIA, offered a stunning assessment of how Trump’s lies and hostility to the first amendment make him view his life’s work in service to the country if they now represent who we truly are.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking I like Hayden. IMO he is a super spook warhawk!

What do you wish me to say General?
From so many different unjust wars, the explosion of wasteful spending of the MIC.
I am sorry, but the attacks to the Free Press did not start in 2016. Hell, it didn’t even start with GW Bush. Don’t even get me started with how Obama limited access of the press and only provided approved photos from their own photographer.
So yeah, I don’t see a difference in governance other than Trump is just an open asshole rather than one who will backstab you.

well, Trump’s an asshole who will also do terrible things, misrepresent them to his base, & backstab you, so I don’t see such a big difference. The dumpster’s ‘front’ just has a different design to appeal to different consumers, is my take.

Me thinks this general is not too bright if he has only just reached this conclusion. I reached the conclusion that my tenure as a Citizen has all been a bloody waste of time. And that conclusion was reached long before Trump considered running for President. One supposes that wearing those stars makes some less intelligent over time.

I realized that I was going to waste 4 years of my life when I got to boot camp and was taught how to kill people I didn’t know and had nothing against.

A former director of the NSA and CIA who now works for Michael Chertoff lamenting dishonesty and a lack of transparency is laughable.

Oh, TRUMP was the line that got crossed?
You helped make us what we are, overall, as a nation. Killers.

Yes, this is sort of like George Bush arguing above all about “the sanctity of the contract” when speaking in favor of bank boss bonuses in 2009 after the 2009 bank-led stock meltdown/TARP bank bailout.
Like … huh?

Contracts are sacred when the 1% benefits, not sacred when the 99% do. (Don’t you know the unwritten rules?)
But yeah, that was a head-scratching moment.
