FWIW: The Trump-Russia Story Has Only Just Begun (To Explode)

The Trump-Russia Story Has Only Just Begun (To Explode) – HuffPo

    <snip>

WASHINGTON ― Let’s step back for a minute and consider again what we saw Monday in a hearing room of the U.S. House.
The director of the FBI, with the director of the National Security Agency agreeing at his side, in effect called the president of the United States a liar ― and, oh, by the way, the president’s 2016 campaign indeed is under investigation for allegedly having secretly teamed up with Russia to win the election.
After two months of Donald J. Trump’s presidency and more than a year of his campaign, our political senses are so dulled by tumult that we can barely recognize history when we see it. Make no mistake. Monday’s hearing was all but unprecedented.
Not since a White House aide named Alexander Butterfield told the Watergate committee in 1973 that President Richard Nixon had bugged his own Oval Office has an investigative hearing made it so clear that a presidency was in serious legal jeopardy.
Now we know for sure that, while no one “tapped” Trump’s phones, his campaign circle is in the gunsights of the FBI. The issue is whether Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose interference in the 2016 election is now an accepted fact, tried to rig the outcome with the knowledge or collusion of Team Trump.
Foreign countries have meddled in U.S. politics from the founding of the republic. At the dawn of the 19th century…

      1. The Russians forced Hillary to run an inept campaign?

The Russians forced her to alienate voters?

“The issue is whether Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose interference in the 2016 election is now an accepted fact, tried to rig the outcome with the knowledge or collusion of Team Trump.”

If the Russians had done this to Sanders then many here would have been cheering for an investigation.

It’s not about Hilly inasmuch it is about our Democracy.

              24. That's the Huffington Post's take. The Hill shilling Huffington Post.

The Democratic process was subverted when the primaries were rigged. That’s when the election was lost. Only thing the alleged Russian hacking did was reveal the truth.

                26. How can something be "alleged" while revealing the truth?

                God, I hate Mondays.

Also, the system has been rigged for a long time.

But neither Hillary or Trump running or losing makes the allegation of outside interferrence less valid.

                    44. I agree with you. Despite all the blather

I still have not seen a scintilla of convincing evidence that Russia meddled in our elections any more than usual, and certainly less than the USA does routinely in foreign country’s politics..

This entire Russia thing is bullshit IMO, amounting to a big lie told often enough, and loud enough on M$M, until it becomes “accepted fact”.

is that they believe folks read too much RT and listened too closely to WikiLeak’s Podesta mails which in turn portrayed Hillary as the more corrupt one.

              31. You're citing Democratic spin, not fact. There has still been absolutely NO hard

evidence of any kind brought forward to back it up, just as there is no hard evidence that Obama ordered Trump Tower tapped. There is no evidence that Putin interfered in the 2016 election, none. It is not established fact, no matter what the Dems and the media say.

There is evidence of financial conflicts of interest between the Trump businesses and foreign governments. For all we know, that could be what Comey was hinting at.

                  64. There IS an open investigation going on. That doesn't mean any hard evidence of

Russian “interference” in the election exists. Besides, Obama his own self said the DNC emails were probably leaked, and Comey just said there was no evidence that the Russians had influenced the actual outcome at all.

There probably is sheer bribery going on. Trump and his associates have always been shady businessmen, to say the least.

          34. But the question is: how did Trump's cabinet "palling around" with Russian

ambassadors and business men sway an election?

Even if the Russians hacked the DNC and Podesta (I don’t think they did. I think it was an insider), the information posted was valid and showed the DNC to be in Hillary’s corner. Besides, most Bernie supporters weren’t happy about the primary before the emails came out: between the super delegates and her surrogates trying to shoe him out and the fact that she picked a nearly-Republican VP, Berners were loathe to vote for her anyway.

So, what did Russia do to sway the election?

            46. MAybe two seperate issues

DNC propaganda and media hype aside (the Neocons still want a war with Russia)….

I’m still open to the possibility that these are two separate issues and not mutually exclusive.

Assange inferred at least once, maybe couple of times that the DNC Wiki info was a Leak, not a Hack. Some DNC people have mysteriously ended up dead and we have speculated here as to why.

If the Leak possibility is true, then the ‘palling around’ may have more to do with Trumps illicit (or at least shadowy) business dealings with the Russians (government? Crime Syndicates?) and nothing to do with the election other than possible shady donations and more shady business dealings. The FBI investigations may have more to do with this than Hacks (at least behind the scenes).  Who is the President financially indebted to and for how much? Are the Golden Shower videos real?

Add to this the looks on the faces and the demeanor of Feinstein and Grassley directly after their secret meeting with Comey – is this where they realized that they had a crisis on their hands and would have to Remove the Orange One? Hellova mess.  Then after the Comey meeting Feinstein comes out with this:  ‘I think he’s going to get himself out’: Feinstein hints that Trump may resign…

Confront him with the data and force him to resign – to avoid the crisis ?

            Yea, I’m just guessin here….

…and you think you’re going to stop this simply by ‘pulling a lever’, in a booth, behind a curtain, every 2 years? - Know yourself. And if you need help with that, call the FBI. -  There is only ONE solution to this mess:  New Party !

              52. exactly. Friends here are making the assumption that there is to the story than

the outcome of the election., whether or not Putin had his hands on the levers. Is not quite the point of the investigations as it is more in regards to Trump’s financial ties, investments and, ahem, money laundering operations  etc etc etc.

that’s the stuff that’s getting investigated…  Election Rigging is an issue going back at least since 2000, to which the establishment has done ZERO to investigate and get square with. It appears cyber election engineering is being white washed yet again, according to Comey’s statements in today’s hearing.  “there’s no evidence of election rigging”  in the 2016 elections.

          13. The only ones today who raised allegations of specific crimes are the Repubs

Excerpt of latest summary from CNN with bottom-line quote of the day (from a surprising source): http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/20/politics/comey-hearing-russia-wiretapping/

Republicans say that the leaking of his name was a criminal act in contravention of laws that mask the identify of US citizens caught up in surveillance operations targeting foreign nationals.
Comey would not talk Monday about specific cases or confirm newspaper reports, but said that leaks about classified activity were “terrible.”
South Carolina Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy read out the names of Obama administration officials, including former national security adviser Susan Rice and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, asking whether they would have had access to the name of a unmasked person. Comey said that their positions would likely allow them such information but did not comment on the individual cases.
“The felonious dissemination of classified material most definitely is a crime,” Gowdy warned.
The top Democrat on the committee, Rep. Adam Schiff, said it was not yet known whether the Russian operation was aided by US citizens, “including people associated with the Trump campaign.”

“Many of Trump’s campaign personnel, including the President himself, have ties to Russia and Russian interests. This is, of course, no crime,” Schiff said.

so I watched the biggest portion of his testimony, and while I was getting impatient with all the innuendo previously, after viewing Comey’s testimony, I’m thinking something is up, and not just with the Russia-collusion charge, but with his charges that Obama bugged his Trump Tower (or had/let MI6 bug it).

They’ve got something, and it’s going to be fairly significant, if not more, is my assessment.  Who knows.

What makes you think there is anything to either allegation?

          17. Schiff barked out questions, Comey replied, even cracking a joke at one point,

but when he was asked about Russia, he turned stone-faced, and he said I can’t comment, the investigation is ongoing.  I don’t know, nothing specific, just a sense I got.  I’m probably wrong.

If either gets raised, there’s probably something to it.  What was the question on Russia when Comey blanched?

              45. I think what he said was "I am authorized by the Department of Justice to confri

confirm that an investigation is ongoing.”  I just found that verbiage and his demeanor alarming.  My gut said this isn’t legalese; there really is something there – will it be actionable, that will require many hurdles to clear, of course.

              54. The NSA taps us, UK taps us, a dozen states tap us, and they all tap each other

That much is already known and accepted by anyone who reads in the world.  They all also routinely use that information to meddle in the political affairs of the others, and try to shape the world to their own advantage, but all try very hard to hide the fact of universal surveillance, espionage, and influence operations.

      21. I am very skeptical.

The Russians may have passed a few tips and ideas to the Trump campaign, but I can’t see how they could actually hack the voting process. A few meetings with some Russians does not mean much.  Huff-Po is wrong. It is far from established fact that Putin meddled in our election.

      22. Comey and Rogers admitted

there is an investigation into Russia/Trump.

They confirmed Trump is a pathetic LIAR with Obama wiretaps.

Anyone here standing with Trump and his murdering AHCA, devastating budget and destruction of our government is in cahoots with CRIMES against Humanity

If the IC is corrupt and Trump is a liar and inhumane in his actions, then I would expect posts here to eviscerate both and not one.

        61. Who is standing with Trump???

Someone here at JPR. Really wow let’s hang em high traitors and rascals one and all.

The FBI, CIA  and other lettered organizations spy are not beneath fabricating bullshit. You don’t like Trump and his shenigs – totally understandable. That does not mean he has done anything criminal or even anything that can get him removed from office.

Pence is waiting in wings if spy inc. Is able to remove him and Ryan is just a few steps behind if Pence is removed. It will take years to do either.

Do you think they will put a nice democrat in the white house if Trump is removed. No just greater evil and better scammers.

Be careful what you wish for my friend you might get President Pence, religious zealot and bringer of end times.

      30. The HuffPo article is mostly bullshit DNC propaganda spin.

It even went on to say that during the Cold War the Russians had “infested” our State Department and “other agencies.” That was a lie then, and it is a lie now. Infested, really? That’s pure fucking Joe McCarthy, right there. Oh, there were ex-communists in the State Department, and there were a few real double agents, but most of them approached the Soviets, not the other way round.

Just like most Soviet double-agents probably approached the CIA.

Nowhere did Comey ever say that there was evidence of collusion between Russian intelligence and Trump’s people. His wording was careful and rather vague, but that does not mean that the FBI is actually investigating a Russian hack of the DNC, which is what shill sites like HuffPo constantly parrot. They may well be, in fact they should be, investigating any violations of the Emoluments Clause which I don’t doubt for a minute that Trump has done, and not just with the Russians.

If Trump is impeached, that’s what it will be for. And it has absolutely nothing to do with the arrogant, incompetent DNC and/or Hillary Clinton.

Ignorance is the foundation of tyranny.

      36. It's so odd there's no mention of two things here…

Did you know the FBI has never looked at the DNC server after the hack was discovered? The entire report suggesting Russia hacked the DNC, is based on the word of a private company. The neocons and Third Way democrats continually march us further toward a nuclear confrontation, based on a fucking report put out by a private company HIRED by the DNC. Let that sink in. After MONTHS of investigations and yes, illegal wiretaps, they have YET to find any evidence to hang around Trump’s neck.

There is however plenty of evidence of Hillary taking money from Russian oligarchs WHILE she was secretary of state, and selling out 20% of our uranium mining business to Russian private interests. I say open this can of worms up. Let it ALL hang out. LOLOL The neoliberals are so grossly myopic on this issue. It’s going to come back and bite them hard, just like the damn election did. Stupid FUCKS.

      37. Still zero evidence

of any election “hacking” by the Russians! And they ain’t gonna find none! It has been 6 months of this ClintonDNC pushed  bullshit and still nothing! Clapper and Morel both admitted as much the last few weeks. Also, the so-called Assessment from the 17 intelligence agencies that they released some months ago, (and so many otherwise sane liberals keep citing), had in it a DISCLAIMOR  admitting that they had no proof,  just beliefs, strongly feels, and hunches! And the present FBI investigation was opened not because there was any new information, but because of constant pressure from these same Clintonite and Russiaphobe congressional reps, and will remain open until they close it, after finding nothing, probably sooner rather than later. There are a thousand things to go after Trump on, why is so much time and space being wasted on Russia?

      58. The hearings didn't even touch the CIA angle in all this

Who we know have their own NSA type domestic/international spying agenda.  Plus we don’t know the CIA’s intelligence work on Russia on what they found on this matter.  Do the CIA and FBI work in conjunction or opposition to each other in goals, agendas, and honesty to each other?

Well no………and we have seen evidence of that. Wouldn’t the CIA have the real goods on the Russian story?

I have no doubt that Hillary broke laws and the FBI could have brought charges but didn’t when you consider many others that have gone to prison for less infractions of the law. Now what’s that say about the whole Russian thing? Hell, they didn’t even do forensics on the server because Hillary wouldn’t let them. So what does that say about the FBI?

This whole thing is a distraction

      72. PROOF Russia saw Bernie as GOOD for America: they leaked AFTER primary

It does seem plausible now that they were working to destabilize us and mess with the election, which seems kind of quaint compared with the ways the US have actually OVERTHROWN legitimate elections in other countries through the years.

So I buy that Russia wanted to mess with us, and HRC, but what to me is most telling and what I wish someone would write a piece about is that they had access to these incriminating e-mails, esp proving Debbie’s cheating, DURING THE PRIMARY. They could have HELPED BERNIE WIN. And they didn’t.

To any idiots who think Russia is “communist” anymore and conflate Bernie with communism, this is evidence that they didn’t support him.

To people who have a clue, it’s clear that if their ongoing goal is to destabilize the US, they saw Bernie as a threat, because FDR economic justice policies would have made us stronger. That point screams out at me. I’m really hoping a good writer picks up on it too because it really hits home that economic justice makes America less vulnerable defensively, not more.
