    (The Hill)
President Trump’s job approval rating has jumped by 5 points in the latest Gallup survey, matching the high-point of his presidency, as a majority of voters say they have a positive view of how the president has handled the coronavirus pandemic.

The new poll finds Trump’s job approval rating at 49 percent, up from 44 percent in the same survey earlier this month. The 49 percent job approval rating is the high mark for Trump since he came into office. He first hit that mark in late January, shortly before he was acquitted by the Senate in his impeachment trial.

The president’s job approval rating has remained steady among Republicans (92 percent), but he’s gained 8 points among independents (43 percent) and 6 points among Democrats (13 percent).

It appears that Trump’s handling of the coronavirus response is behind the approval rating bump. Sixty percent of voters overall said they approve of the job Trump is doing to address the epidemic, including 94 percent of Republicans, 60 percent of independents and 27 percent of Democrats.

and one of those advantages is the ability to reframe policies: by November he can say he “handled” coronavirus no matter how many did die, he can call his constant truckling to MBS “peace through strength,” while Biden’s “return to normalcy” is a paradox if you’re the challenger

Bernie’s out there every day with concrete proposals and demands, but he’s getting no corporate media coverage. Biden’s showed up twice and bombed both times, but the media showed that.

Biden’s got dementia. Trump’s an idiot, but at least he’s got coherence. The media ignores Bernie. Trump’s approval ratings go up. The Vichy Dems in action. Nobody beats them at losing.

People who are afraid become more authoritarian – that’s why the government likes to keep us afraid.

@maedhros Threadwinner! That’s it exactly, combined with Biden be hidin’. Everyone else, no, this is real. You’ve gotta remember all those decades of D v. R propaganda and the Democrats were nowhere on this stuff, until the supposed Senate deal Schumer just announced.

Trump was visible. The Dems, especially Biden, mostly weren’t. And when Biden was…oy!

Actually, it could be bullshit. This approval rating could be a complete fabrication.

I would like to remind you that U.S. health insurance companies do not contribute anything to health care. They are only a PARASITIC middle man receiving an undeserved cut of "FREE MONEY".

but then Trump is the only one the American people are seeing out there. Like @ohiobarbarian said, the corporate media ignore Bernie, the one guy coming out with real proposals, while everything the democrats do is seemingly worse than the last time they did something. And don’t get me started on their god damn savior, No Show Slow Joe!

Downplaying the threat, refusing the WHO tests (something shady with that) is all but forgotten. Even now that they’ve gotten their act together (by their standards at least), he is basically telling the states to go pound sand and fend for themselves, which you would think would be a big deal being covered 24/7, but instead all of the focus is on his erratic statements, a bunch of inconsequential nonsense, and the damn tweets. Same as it always has been.

But at least he’s here and speaking in something resembling English. Biden hides for weeks only to emerge with a bizarre video which begins with him silent and staring Alzheimersly into the void before trying and failing to read lines off a teleprompter.

Since the coronavirus media line is literally millions and millions will die and we’re all doomed, Trump will look like he did a great job if the country is still here in November. The bar is that low right now. And imagine if Trump actually signs off on sending everyone a check…

@gamemeat There’s no way Trump vetoes checks for every American. He’ll sign it and take credit for it. That will improve the ratings of the reality TV show he lives in, and Trump does know how to read a room.

The pandemic will be gone well before November, at least for a few months. Neither Biden nor whomever the Democrats install as their corrupt and uninspiring nominee won’t have a chance against that, especially if the economy improves over this very low bar.

that’s why I think the “status quo” angle just can’t work for Biden irrespective of everything else he has going on: “okay, so you want normalcy, bolster the Establishment, maintain the status quo, and make sure nothing changes–so why not just vote for the sitting President?”

all early 2017 people were in a tizzy that the tanks were going to surround Capitol Hill, neo-Nazis would be dragging people off the streets and into the ovens, and then Trump would nuke Russia because, um …

Trump couldn’t buy the opponents he has, and that started with Jeb talking about his brother August 2015

@sffh Go to Trinidad and get some nice weed from one of Colorado’s lovely dispensaries.

What’s there to be depressed about, anyway? Most of us knew Biden had no chance against Trump. Now that Trump’s for sure going to send people checks, his approval rating will go up even more. The Democrats have done this to themselves.
