I met Lasorda, and he was always very nice, very friendly. All the bluster during a game – that is theater, and is expected by the team and the crowd. Baseball is not called The Show for nothing!
When the Dodgers recruited someone I knew, Lasorda made sure that the recruit would have money set aside for him so that he would still have four years of college all paid for, in case things did not work out, because he was giving up a baseball scholarship. This was on top of the offer.
