My son is expecting to fly here to NH from Tucson on the 27th.

They’re not paid all that much in the first place, so I imagine a fair number of them will say “Feck this” and just call in sick, or maybe even quit. I know I’d sure work as little as possible if I was in their shoes.
Here’s a USA Today story on it.
Your son should be prepared for long waits. Remember you can bring shooters of alcohol through the gates and onto the plane. I sure as hell cannot endure an American TSA experience of any kind sober.

We worked on shutdown, but it was only three or four days, so we got paid on time. If this goes on very long, it could get rough. TSA officers will be grumpier than usual, and some of them are already pretty bad. It’s a low pay job, and some people live from one paycheck to the next.

that matter. So a week may not hit the paychecks right away, but two weeks, three? If Trump vetoes the spending bill sure to come from Congress in early January, then the TSA employees will have to choose between working for free for a time and several other options, none of them good.
