Hillary Clinton will donate campaign contributions from Weinstein to charity

Hillary Clinton said she would gift previous campaign contributions from disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein to charity. Clinton made the announcement in response to a question on the matter in a CNN interview on Tuesday.

“Of course I will do that. I give 10% of my income to charity every year. This will be part of that. There’s no doubt about it,” Clinton said.

Weinstein is one of a handful of Hollywood power players who regularly fundraise for and donate to Democratic candidates, several of whom have said they would also give Weinstein-linked contributions to charity in light of the sexual harassment scandal engulfing him and his media empire. Clinton on Tuesday said she was “shocked and appalled” by the allegations against Weinstein, and said such behavior “cannot be tolerated.”

So, no special treatment for his campaign contributions – she supposedly gives 10% of her income to charity and his contributions “will be a part of that.”

She can’t open her mouth without making me want to puke.  She will never, ever get a fucking clue about anything.  Out of touch?  She’s never been IN touch.

    1. She will donate 10% of his contributions to charity…

at such future time (probably April 14) that she makes her annual tithe. That’s what she’s saying. In the video, she chuckles while she says it, like “of course, this is nothing.” She can’t say anything without some qualifier that waters it down.

Reminds me of the way she “took responsibility” for her crappy campaign… saying things like:
“It was not a perfect campaign… no campaign is.”
“Did I make mistakes? Everyone does.”

    Her phoniness is so blatant.

      6. Right move? That's all it is, is a "move", and putting that money into her

“usual” 10% is not actually giving Weinstein’s money to charity – it just frees up her own money from going into that 10%.  What a farce.  And likely some spawn of the Clinton Moneywashing Foundation gets that 10% anyway.  I do like the tithing mention – little bone thrown to Mormons before 2020?

You think the only reason that people won't vote for a warmongering Third Way fracking-enabling cluster bomb throwing H-1B increasing lying pandering corporate and Wall Street shill who says she has no problem putting abortion rights on the table is because we are mad about Bernie?  Um, nope.

    5. Follow the money

Will the charity be something connected to the Clinton’s

    7. Weinstein's money will be part of the "10%". What a farce.

Doubt if any of that 10% goes farther than a Clinton fund.

but only after she had lost to Obama. It’s just another example of Hillary’s poor judgement.

    12. A duplicitous gesture netting her a personal tax deduction of $10,296

“Over the course of her political career, her campaigns have received about $26,000 in donations from Weinstein according to the Federal Election Commission.” (op link)

So there we have the amount involved – a paltry, miniscule (in Clinton Land) $26,000.  No wonder she laughed about it.  That’s less than pocket change to her.  I’m surprised she didn’t roll her eyes and say, “Big Whoop!”   But wait!  there’s more grifting to be done!

So Weinstein gave Hillary a total of $26,000 over the course of her senate and presidential campaigns (of course, he probably gave $$$ to Bill’s 2 presidential campaigns as well, but we see no mention of that).  Politicians can carry over any unused campaign donations for future campaigns, i.e., even when they’re out of office and have not announced future plans to run.  In Hillary’s case, we know that she ended her first presidential/primary bid deeply overspent – so no money carried over there.  In point of fact, she stiffed over 500  vendors, municipalities, consultants, etc., for millions of dollars, and took up to four years to finally pay them all off.

Clinton’s debt reached its peak in June 2008 shortly after the former New York senator suspended her campaign. At that point, her presidential committee owed $12 million to almost 500 creditors and $13.2 million to the candidate herself, who dipped into her personal funds to help finance her campaign.  http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2013/01/22/hillary-clintons-campaign-debt-finally-paid-off/

So it’s is not like there is some fungible* $26,000 sitting in a holdover campaign fund which HRC could donate to charity. She will have to repay out of her personal fortune.  She paid no taxes on Weinstein’s campaign donations when she recieved them, but she gets a tax deduction for giving an equal amount to charity.

My first thought, as many on this thread have stated, was that she’ll give it to her fave charity, The Clinton Foundation.

With a tax bracket of 39.6% (married, filing jointly, with incomes over $470,701 for tax year 2017), that $26,000 “charitable” donation will net her a $10,296 tax deduction!  If she in fact “donates” it to her own family foundation, thereby keeping it, she keeps the original $26,000 PLUS the $10,296.  She can figure out a way to profit from any disaster whether it’s Haiti or Weinstein. Disaster Capitalism is her god.  It’s the Clinton Way, man!  She never changes.

    13. As if his MONEY is the issue

Her Majesty should go down in flames with Weinstein.  He was a key part of inner circle and a big part of the way Her operated. The internet is now littered with pictures of Her and Weinstein laughing it up like 2 sociopaths.

Weinstein gave direct help and advice to Her’s campaign. He is part of both Her “public and private persona(s)” and exposes her yet again for the phony feminist she portrays on TV:
