This is where I live. The little town of Sequim (pronounced “skwim”) is being run into the ground by an unelected mayor and three unelected council members. The mayor is famous for his racist hatred of the James Bay S’klallam Tribe, and his suggestion that Sequim should be the gathering place for Qanon followers. They focus on local politics and get their people appointed to vacancies on city councils, school boards, airport commissions, or anything else they can take over. This gives them the base to run for county commissions, state legisltures, and eventually national offices.

Sequim is one of my favorite places. At least you still get to live in a wonderful – or should that be beautiful and scenic? – place in the rain shadow of the Olympics.

I’m curious, how did the mayor come to take office, if he wasn’t elected?

Destruction is easy; creation is hard, but more interesting.

I forget the exact sequence, but there were vacancies on the council, and those were filled by appointments. The appiuntees had the majority so they filled a vacant mayor’s position by appointment.

I was considering relocating to Sequim. I have a good friend who moved there. Or rather moved back there. It’s really a nice place.

The whole area is heavily tilted toward retired persons. Our immediate neighborhood is heavily Democratic, but there are many grumpy old Qanon followers and promoters of weird religious cults. For those considering amover here, I would advise examining the neighboring houses for Trump signs, blue lives matter flags, and signs opposing the drug treatment clinic being built by the S’klallam Tribe: NO MAT CLINIC.

With a family in it and trapped them in the woods because they though they were Antifa or BLM folks. Dangerous stupidity.

That was near Forks, 100 miles or so west of here. It’s a logging town, inhabited by many unemployed loggers who live in the woods, cook meth and practice shooting their AR-15s at pictures of Obama. As I recall, the family of campers were from India, so they stuck out enough to be categorized as terrorists. The locals cut down trees to prevent their excape and harrassd them. I forget how they finally escaped.

If so, I hope someone will go for it.  Local politics is important.

Always the future tense, as if fascism didn’t already take over. A certain Forum went fash ages ago, and now the same mass psychosis has spread everywhere. Varieties of fascism pointing fingers at each other and labeling each other with that word doesn’t mean they both can’t be. The scary thing is ideological possession of the ruling class behaving in extremely authoritarian way and constantly seeking and creeating new enemies to exclude from society. Look at what they do, don’t listen.

      Aloha!
