“…The American idiot has turned American culture into the one of the world’s regressive, short-sighted, narrow-minded, and, well…idiotic. Literally the tiniest shreds of decency and sanity come under a murderous, withering barrage of denial and false “debate” — from things as simple as wearing masks to ones as large as educating Americans about how the rest of the rich world and even the poor one now has vastly better functioning societies.

Huge chunks of American culture are so hateful, foolish, or bizarre that they’d be either illegal, laughable, or bewildering in much of the rest of the world, from Canada, Europe, or Asia. “Debating” whether the answer to school shootings — which happen nowhere else — is to arm teachers? The idea that billionaires are somehow good for society, or that things like healthcare, retirement, pensions, income, and safety aren’t human rights? That money is all that should matter? Nearly everyone else in the world finds such notions jaw-droppingly foolish by now, which is how the American Idiot made his country a laughingstock the world over.”

      Hi n4s,

If there is one instance of popular culture that captures this mentality well it would be the movie Idiocracy.

The root of the problem, and the divide-and-conquer strategy so effectively used by the American ruling class, isn’t mentioned at all. Nope. It’s all about hate, personal values, and virtue-signaling.

country we lived in, just four short years ago!  Bwahahahaha!  THAT’s the divide and conquer trick now – pretending the Democrats were, and will be,  wonderful, and we can return to the wondrous life we led when Obama and Clinton were in charge.  Again – Bwahahahaha!  And, you KNOW we would be told Biden has a MANDATE to inflict war and austerity, because he “won”.  Looks pretty clear, now, the the Democrats are not going to run on any inconvenient ‘issues” stuff at all.  Kudos to capitalism!

I think it was probably the trashing of O’Reilly and Carlson that lit the fuse, but it was most likely the pro-socialism, pro-democracy paragraphs like the paragraphs below that were the actual explosives.

      …………
Now, I don’t mean that you hate anyone. I mean it in a more technical way, one that’s almost invisible in America, because like air, it’s just the atmosphere that surrounds everyone. What else, though, can it really be called, when some large number of Americans deny, over and over, everyone else the right to have healthcare? An education? A job with decent standards? Free time? A rising income? A democracy?

A very loud minority – yes, they are despicable, but they are not representative of Americans as a whole.  Should neo nazis in Germany be evidence that Germany is full of Nazis?  It isn’t.  Should what is happening in Brazil suggest that Brazilians are stupid?  What about India?  The UK?  China?  Japan?  If we so choose, we can associate any Nation’s identity with its most idiotic citizens.  Unfortunately, this seems particularly common in the west.  No doubt, there are stupid Americans.  Maybe we ought to do something though, about the ones that are getting thousands of us killed.  Nah… too many Americans are too stupid, nothing we can do, may as well die.

The government and corporations do not serve us – here or there.  People are raised on foolish interpretations of books written thousands of years ago.  Many are raised to believe the war to end all wars is coming.  A holy war – a righteous war – a spiritual war!  Ashes to ashes – slime to slime… amen.

“Huge chunks of American culture are so hateful, foolish, or bizarre that they’d be either illegal, laughable, or bewildering in much of the rest of the world, from Canada, Europe, or Asia. “Debating” whether the answer to school shootings — which happen nowhere else — is to arm teachers?”

So – if we associate the most foolish Citizens of said lands with their culture, we could certainly say a lot!  Come to think of it, that seems to be how moronic racist and nationalist ideas come to be.  You know – one person who was this color, race, Nationality… did THIS, so, well, they must all be THAT.

Nevermind our scientists, teachers, doctors, professors, intellectuals and so on and so forth – many of whom are exceptionally fine and brilliant people.  Nah, we’re all stupid.  Pardon me while I go belch loudly, scratch my balls in public and buy another six-pack, or something.  That’s what Americans do.

He is only referring to the idiots, the masses of brainwashed fools who are the reason why we can never have nice things, who consistently vote against Medicare for All and all the other nice things like free higher education, social security expansion, peace, equality, etc.

Except that the author seems to miss the point rather consistently.  Oh woe is us, stupid people won’t let us be good or smart.  Sigh.  It’s not just this piece.  It is that I see those who call themselves democrats and Republicans leading us off a cliff while they argue about who has the bigger… Uh… Brain.

against a progressive agenda.  He does not mention Republicans or Democrats.

I see criticism of Tucker Carlson and Bill O’Reilly – which I agree with, yes, they are idiots.  Yet I see none of Rachel Maddow or Joy Reid.  I see criticism of Donald Trump – which is well deserved – but I see none of Joe Biden.  No mention of Nancy Pelosi.  No mention of all these democrats who, in their own way – are just as stupid.  Just as twisted.  Just as cruel.  Again, the bias is obvious – for it is not just the forces of the stupid, evil republicans – but also the forces of the stupid, evil democrats… that are working against a progressive agenda.

Was this a piece written about political bias?  Perhaps about the failures or flaws of one party?  No – it is “American idiot”.  Seems to me that the Author has a rather significant blind spot.

of anti-progressive right wing idiots by naming Carlson, O’Reilly, and Trump.

They are clearly among the most vocal, and most blatant, anti-progressive, anti-socialism, pro-imperialist capitalism idiots in the US.

The primaries?  2016?  A billion dollars for some five lobbying groups?  The DNC emails?  Corporate bailouts, drone strikes, welfare reform, several wars, media manipulation, financial crisis, etc….

All those damn republicans.  Or wait.  It wasn’t.  Seems to me the democrats actually did that.  In what way are they not anti-progressive extremists?  I am sure that someone is going to accuse me of doing the whole “Whataboutism” thing, so, whatever.  But it is very, very clear to me that the wolf is at the front AND back door.  It is the epitome of idiocy, American or otherwise, to ignore either one.

..where he misses the mark is that it’s not the so-called idiots who are denying us healthcare, time, and basic human rights. It’s the educated bourgeoisie ,like the Clintons and Pelosi, who side with the rich against the working class.

The educated bourgeoisie, the professional class, were the ones who chose to anoint Joe Biden and turn their backs on the opportunity to have a decent country that Bernie offered, not just to them but to everyone. And they would rather nobody have a decent life but them.

The so called idiots have no more power or influence than we do.

this shit used to be fringe ideas until some rich fucking congressman(or was it cheney?) uttered the words ” Lucky Duckies” when speaking of people so poor they don’t HAVE to pay taxes. Of course the popular graph goes back to show that the PTB had been doing shit behind the scenes since before 1973.

That’s when the people started losing to the rich, again.

Keep us hating each other so we don’t start working together. This is how it works.
This is how it works on the other side. My daughters roommates sister is coming to visit, her father is freaking out because he has been told that Antifa is all over Portland burning down the streets attacking police. With cars running over people right and left. The right is told that we will do anything to take away their guns.
When we talk to friends like this we just try to listen and tell them what our 1st hand experience is at these protests. With guns one of the things that has worked for me is talking about the rural urban divide . People in eastern OR and WA or UT MT NV grew up with guns they know how to use them when talking to them about people in cities with guns they start to get the issue.
I also believe that the Democrats use what elites love to use historically we are smarter and more refined then these yahhoos so you should shut up and listen to us, cause we are good and smart and our way is the right way. The messages on either side have worked to drive us to this point, yet we need these people to throw out the corrupt government that is not made up of just crazy trumpers. Nancy and chucky and Cotten McConnell are all so abhorant yet you listen to the left hero worship nancy it is enough to make me gag. WE have a 1 party state made to look like 2 they serve Jeff Bezo and the Koch brothers.

I disagree.  The President in Idiocracy may be crude and dumb, but they are at least smart enough to listen to the smartest mind in the Planet at the time.

They also were able to forego corporate profit for some actual improvement.

Currently the a-holes in power have proven without a doubt that they would still protect their corporate profits as the world burns.

I would rather have Camacho than Biden or Trump.

And that comment underscores the point.  When one would rather have Camacho than Biden or Trump, America has sunk to new lows.

This is the typical “DIVIDE  AND  CONQUER” method. Many

forgot that the original “tea-party” was a reaction to the bailout,

until it was taken over by the Kochs. The economic system cannot

be attacked and the coopted media have to be believed. I think by

now a great majority realizes that Washington is broken and

      bought,– except for Washington itself.

in most of the rest of the world (certainly most of the developed world), their elites don’t even try to sell that bill of goods.

Their elites will try to scale back the ‘human rights’ that their people assume are the part of why their government exists. That is a tough road for their elites but, like the conservative everywhere, they never give up. Our elites laugh at their elites.
