        9. And, did the movie start there?

Hopefully, it’s a short movie that had more hype than movie

          10. We got the wind previews, movie about to start.

Snapped 3 dead trees I can see from the house, uprooted another across the pond. Right now it’s around Wilmington NC.

That’s about 100 miles north of us. We are in Marion SC, the Myrtle Beach area.

As long as the roof stays on, we should be safe. Spent the last few days getting ready, as best we could.

Then again how to prepare for who knows what.

Hope I have over-prepared and the storm under-delivers.

            25. How have you fared?

Should you have evacuated? Wasn’t your area under mandatory evacuation?

Such devastation. I hope you and yours are well

              30. We did well.

A few dead trees broke, ponds did not overflow. Old folks behaved for a change, except for when the power went out

My Ma -in-law is from England and was kinda tripping cause it was time for her English shows and I guess it was taking me too long to get the generator wired into the breaker box. LOL bless her heart I love her to death.

There is flooding in all areas around us, the water in town has mostly gone down. The big rivers are overflowing all around us.

Tons of people in pretty bad shape, went around and checked on the older folks that we know, they were mostly OK. Didn’t realize at the time how long it was going to take. They are lonely and needed to talk and talk, it’s cool if that small jester on my part helps them get through another day. That’s why I went to see if they needed anything.

              Thanks for asking Mary.

      4. Ok so far here in Central NC,

Of course, we are not supposed to get a direct hit or much more than a lot of rain with some wind gusts. This looks like it is going to be very bad for the coast however. The storm surge and flooding is going to be very bad with this one even though it is “only” a category 2.

          14. I'm ok,

and most of us here in central NC should be ok if they stay away from flood-prone areas. We did have a tornado warning that was not too far from us a couple of hours ago, so that is something we will need to closely watch, but I don’t think that is going to be a widespread problem and the threat should be over later today. We did lose power earlier this morning, but it is now back on. The main problems have been at the coast, where I was right about the storm surge and flooding. Unfortunately, the TV just reported the first confirmed fatality.

            26. That rain is what caused theworst parts of Harvey

              29. Yes,

I am still ok. I knew the worse part of this Hurricane would be the water, both in terms of storm surge and flooding.

          12. I'm still here. My posts haven't been taken here

for some reason. I’ve been through 2 tornado warnings, lost and restored power, and surviving these waves of bands of wind and rain. It’s been like passing a kidney stone. Everything comes in waves. Gut wrenching at times.

            24. I'm glad you're ok

So sorry you’re having so many problems. I remember Harvey and the devastation. It’s still bad down there in many places. I imagine it’ll beat least a year, if not longer, before it’s close to normal there.

            Hugs!

      11. Thanks for the thread

Presently cloudy and breezy in Columbia, SC… but it’s early still. Tomorrow and Sunday are when Florence will likely affect the capital city.

      Thanks, LoE!

      13. OK here in the Triangle

OK here in the Triangle area.  Gusts so far only around 40mph and not much rain at all at our house so far. Power went out around 4:30 this morning and couldn’t get back to sleep so I plugged our portable generator into the transfer switch plug on the side of the house, fired her up, transferred house power over to the geney and got the coffee pot, fridge and freezer running. Oh and the white noise machine in the bedroom. And the wi-fi router (thankfully the cable didn’t go down) and Netflix. Creature comforts!

      Stay safe, all!

      18. Okay where I'm at, northeast of Greensboro, NC.

We’ve had a few heavy winds, some heavy rain, but mostly lighter stuff. I’ve given some of the huge pine trees around the house the evil eye, though.  No sign of the power going out, so that’s good.

Hope everyone dealing with being in the path are okay and remain safe.

      19. So far so good.

        Good News

When it gets to us should only be a Tropical Storm, the eye part might hit us or just barely to our north @ 8 am – it’s @ 9:30 pm right now.

Power went out @ an hour ago, generator is working, we have power for fridge, freezer, water pump on well, hot water and a few lights.

This sprint I- pad still has internet, our Huges.net is dead.

fun fact, dish is still giving the old folks TV.

Bad winds outside, constant rain, and it will really move in tonight.

Wish I could watch it in the dark, nothing like watching a tree fall looking thru the window.

Way better than just seeing it on the ground the next day, knowing you have to cut it up and

tote it over to the burn pile.

      21. Wow, weather channel guy

Saying something about now in uncharted territory. Just said he has covered about 70 ts or hurricaines and never see rain and wind combo continue of this magnitude of so many hrs. He was reporting from Wilmington.

      • mikedub285 (23 posts)

        23. indeed – looks like shes keeping on pulling moisture up

I see what they mean, quinn.  Just looking at our local Raleigh tv station’s radar — which shows all the way down toward Wilmington— Florence appears to still be drawing huge bands and moisture up from the Atlantic, southeast of Wilmington, like she’s still feeding on that over-water moisture and bands just keep coming ashore.  I guess some of the reason for it is that she’s moving so slowly, but man is she drawing some seriously heavy water content in?!  wow.    BTW, heavy rain bands here in Durham County, still, this morning, and I expect it to continue the rest of today.  Been raining for going on three days ?!  (on edit, I just noticed I’m almost two days late to seeing your comment – yours was Sept 14 and I’m typing this Sept 16 –   and it’s Still raining.   wow)

      22. All good here.

Only minor damage, still no power, that’s OK there are a whole lot of people in worse shape than us.
