Warren: I think you called me a liar on National TV.

    Sanders: What?

Warren: I think you called me a liar on National TV.

Sanders: You know… Let’s not do this right now.

Sanders: You wanna have that discussion, we’ll have that discussion.

    Warren: Anytime

Sanders: You called me a liar- You told me..

Sanders: Alright, let’s not do this right now.

Steyer: I don’t want to get in the middle of it.

No link, you can find it on CNN but don’t want to offer them clicks.

My guess now is that they had a conversation on a specific individual, who happened to be female, that Bernie did not think could beat Trump.  She has now made that individual a generic “woman” for this talking point.  Then she is not technically lying if called to task.  It is very misleading and a planned smear against Bernie.

In my opinion Warren’s desperate antics have sunk her campaign.

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron."

Back in the day when I had cable, possibly 2015, my then 14 year old daughter and I were watching CNN, Warren was on and so inauthentic, my daughter remarked, Jesus she sounds just like Aunt Pat. I have a sister just like Clinton/Warren. Profoundly fucked up on so many levels. Seriously until you have that kind of narcissistic fuck in your life personally, you will not get it.

It’s as much the fault – malfeasance – of CNN. I smell the mustiness of Shillary and Gang behind this. ‘Cept no Donna Brazille this time. DWS is very active too I think. I saw her marching the halls of congress with a small group of congressfolk just yesterday. Determination in her aspect. What a fucking criminal bunch. Are they better than trump and his gang of crooks? IDK. Tough call.

“The great danger of lying is not that lies are untruths, and thus unreal, but that they become real in other people’s minds”. – Christine Leunens

Warren and the PTB couldn’t find anything real with which to smear Bernie, so they had to make something up, a lie used to smear Bernie.  They know we have all the receipts for Bernie, so their only recourse was to devise a way to smear Bernie with something that cannot be substantiated.  A lie.

It was only after they saw that Bernie is actually going to win the Dem nomination, and beat Trump in the GE, that they decided to let loose with this identity politics smear tactic.  They could have used this bullshit early in the campaign, but there was no reason to do so at that time, because Biden had a huge lead in the race.  However, when Bernie began rising in the polls, they decided to employ this cheap, Machiavellian dirty trick to ratfuck Bernie, and defend the oligarchy of the plutocrats from the threat of democracy, democracy as embodied by us, represented by Bernie Sanders.

Of course, Warren, and the PTB, have no proof to back up her “failsafe” lie.  But the beauty in this lie, for Warren, and the PTB, is that Bernie has no way to prove that he never said what Warren is accusing him of.  The PTB, and Warren, needed to attack Bernie with something that was not real; something for which Bernie, and we, “us”, could not have any receipts.

There are no receipts for something that never happened.

Fortunately, we have Bernie’s long record of honesty and integrity, and his many decades of transparent public service, and lifetime support for the equality and rights of women, as receipts that vouch for his honesty and integrity.  I would go so far as to say that Bernie Sanders is one of the few men on the planet who has a deeply rooted genuine empathy for, and understanding of, the destructive effect that widespread patriarchy still has, and has had throughout human history, on women.  He can’t really understand what it is to grow up female on this planet, but it appears to me that he comes about as close to this understanding as most men ever can, or will.

Elizabeth Warren, on the other hand, as she has often said, is a staunch capitalist, a defender and protector of the inequality of the capitalist profit systems,  was formerly a member of the Republican party, and has few transparent receipts from public service and pre-public service that vouch for her honesty and integrity.

In fact, there is hard public evidence indicating that she has been disingenuous, and mendacious, in the past.

        We do have those receipts.

        Once again:

“The great danger of lying is not that lies are untruths, and thus unreal, but that they become real in other people’s minds”. – Christine Leunens

Another desperate staged theater by Warren…….she went straight for Bernie full-throated (refusing to shake hands knowing the cameras were still rolling), making sure anyone in ear shot could hear her deliver the line ‘you called me a liar on national TV’ instead of keeping her voice down and trying to keep the exchange private as to NOT re-escalate tensions……..Bernie probably sensed this was an ambush by Warren and did the right thing by saying this is NOT the place to be discussing this and walked away………

I understand the appeal, I really do. You want to be President. You and one other candidate (Sanders) are going after essentially the same progressive voters. With him out of the way, you believe a sizable portion of those voters will flock to you. Couple that with you being the only female left in the race who has been polling high enough and has the means by which to continue, knowing full well that 4 years after Hillary lost you’ve got voters who will be in your camp just because you’re a woman. Progressives plus women plus Biden losing his marbles, you feel like you got a pretty good shot.

So yea, I get it. But what an idiot.

In all the commentary, posts, replies, tweets, etc., that I have read on the “woman can’t win” exchange over the last two days, there is one telling aspect that I have not heard mentioned.  If you watch the debate video when the so-called moderator asks the follow up question to Warren, many have commented on Bernie’s shake of his head in disbelief.  But no one has mentioned that just as the question was completed, you can see Warren duck her head slightly, but not far enough to hide a very quick smile as the question was completed, then she raised her head to deliver her prepared answer.

She knew exactly the sequence and wording of the two questions.  That is why the moderator didn’t adjust her question to acknowledge Bernie’s answer.  The wording of the follow up question had been agreed in advance and given to the Warren campaign.  The moderator was just a script-reader.  The quick smile by Warren exposed her delight that it was unfolding just as planned.

That question, along with many others in the debate, was carefully wordsmithed by people that work very hard on schemes to manipulate audiences.  I agree that it is clear that the CNN/Warren parts of that exchange were all planned ahead of time.   And that probably includes the post-debate handshake snub and accusation by Warren.  #CNNisTrash indeed, and someone else as well.

I remember her looking down, but missed the smile. I’m going to watch again to catch that.

I wonder if Bernie knows this whole thing was a set up to take him down? Wonder if he considers her a “good friend” now?

I warned him! 🙂 I knew she was a backstabber and not to be trusted.

He knows it now.  I think his totally unreserved attempted handshake showed that he didn’t suspect even after the debate.  But his quick decision not to engage in the discussion, and then turning his back on her, makes clear he realized what was going on.  I think he believed up until that moment that she was an ally.  We may see more handshakes, but we won’t see any more hugs.

Yes, Abby wasn’t quick-witted enough to rephrase the prepared question.  While Warren is answering, you can see Bernie look down and shake his head slightly, then immediately pop back up and listen to what she is saying because he knows he can’t dwell in his disappointment in her and will have to answer whatever she is saying at that moment.  For that disappointed moment though, he seems to be thinking’ “Et tu, Elizabeth?”

Good observation, and welcome to JPR

I strongly suspect that in the private conversation with Warren, Bernie focused on Trump’s misogyny and indicated that he’d go after a woman nominee with particulatly nasty and vile venom. I remember during a debate with Hillary Clinton, Trump referenced her having gone to the bathroom with the suggestion that activity was gross and disgusting. There is no low too low for Trump. Pointing out how loathsome Trump is and his particular disdain for women is a far cry from his saying a woman couldn’t win. At the least, Warren is misrepresenting Bernie’s words. At the worst, she is out and out lying.

If you go back to the debate, from when they asked Bernie the question, I’m convinced the whole thing was a set up. She was in on it with CNN. Her answer is totally rehearsed. So was her little bit after the debate that CNN just happened to catch on a hot mic and release the following day for another news round.

Watch her smirk as they ask Bernie the question. I would like to know what to little flipping of her nose meant when Bernie said “Hillary Clinton.” It was just strange.

Agreed. And that could be the explanation for the stunningly odd, it got a big laugh, word choice by the moderator who took as a given that Sanders was lying when he said Warren’s reported claim wasn’t true.

The moderator was reading from a prepared script.

Warren not shaking hands is partly explained by her having to “hit her mark” and immediately get to that spot. Scripted movement, positioning, and words. She could have gotten lucky and surprised Bernie into looking flustered, but no.

Her calculated risks in all of this are coming up losers. Totally reeks of Clinton’s former people being goaded on my Brock to concoct this shady little con. Many major party insiders, and extremely wealthy donors, were eager to see the sudden and shocking rise of Sanders in the polls being dealt with.

Congratulations Elizabeth, you’ve taken on the Clinton mantle. You’re one of them now. That didn’t hurt, right? Medicare for All was just part of the whimsy of your initial campaigning, who could fault you for jettisoning it the minute it felt like a burden? Who knows, maybe after all is said done, Syria does need to be destroyed so it can be saved, so why not give those nice war mongers a listen?

I agree it was a set-up. Her campaign coordinated with CNN two days before the debate to release a smear stemming from a 13-month conversation.

CNN /her DNC strategists probably pushed her to do it.  “You’re numbers are dropping, you need to do something bold. Bernie’s now ahead in Iowa, we need to attack his strengths.”

This from Shaun King rings true to me. “One journalist said Warren was going around telling friends, embellishing new details every time.”  Its not hard to imagine some of those friends relaying that info to CNN, or imagining CNN asking around if there is anything anti-Bernie they can use to hype up the debate.  It could also be CNN types heard some of these embellishments 13 months ago, felt it was too flimsy to run at the time, but filed it away to be used just in case Bernie’s campaign is winning and nothing more juicy came up.

So it’s all about HER, just like some candidate in 2016. “I think you called me a liar” What did she do to him? If he didn’t say it, what is he supposed to say, “oh, Elizabeth is always right, I must have said that and I probably meant it as she is treating me as if I am a sexist because I am. Yes Liz, I told you that.” She just as much called him a liar and a sexist as well. Boo hoo!! It is not all about you and we don’t believe you just because you are a woman.

Notice the way Bernie cringed, and reflexively backed up? How he went mute when confronted, and then could barely squeak out a reply?

Me neither, because that never happened. Deer in the headlights is a look Warren could trademark, as it’s her go to when asked anything about the inconsistencies that are her hallmark. We’ll see plenty of both after the impeachment trial is over and she has to face the public in New Hampshire.

Going by the audiences of Democrats and Undeclared (who can vote in this primary) that ask questions at Gabbard’s get togethers in that state, Warren is in for fun times with her double talk, and record of misrepresenting regarding her life history.

Reminds me of a few years ago when Virginia Thomas (wife of Clarence) called Anita Hill and left her a voicemail asking if Hill was finally ready to apologize to her husband.

    Talk about chutzpah.

Months ago, some of us predicted that there would be an attempt to embroil Bernie in a “Dean scream” sort of moment in an effort to sabotage his campaign. Could this be it?

I honestly thought Warren was running as a backup plan for the Progressive wing, just in case.

But now I recall the chants at the Democratic National Convention:

“We trusted you!  We trusted you!”

Our outrage at Warren for so quickly endorsing Hillary Clinton after not helping Bernie at all.

The quick smile at the question, a double-down, and a long prepared answer with all the trimmings of identity politics.

We will never be fooled again!

I wonder if this was a Hillary revenge plan, since those

two women were in contact for a while. If so, then

Warren better watch out. Hillary is waiting for a

contested convention, not to help anyone else.

    @ohiobarbarian , I hope you’re right.

Bernie and his supporters are rewriting the rules in so many ways.

For example, it used to be assumed that big corporate contributors were a “necessary evil.” Bernie’s 2016 campaign changed that. And it’s driving the PTB nuts.

@rufustfirefly I’m afraid there will be more “its,” but if this is the best they can do, they’re in trouble. If anything, this helped Bernie. Exhibit A are the record number of people demanding their contributions to Warren back from Act Blue. Exhibit B is the $1.7 million in small donations Bernie received during and after the CNN inquisition.

I feel a new Barbarian at the Gates coming on.

I didn't refuse to vote for Hillary Clinton because any goddamned Russian told me to. I refused to vote for her because she is a warmongering, election stealing, Goldman Sachs fellating, Republican WHORE. No offense to sex workers.

    I wish this was said:

“You’re Damn Right I called you a Liar on National TV.”

However, fact of the matter is She, Herself, Showed Herself as a Liar on National TV.  Bernie didn’t need to say a thing.
