If a nuclear bomb is dropped on your city, here's where you should run and hide

I guess we the people were not terrified enough of the Russian broohaha and so now they are ramping it up with nuclear war with Korea.  Guess I am just to stupid to be afraid …. or perhaps I am too smart to fall for the Corporations/Politicians fear mongering.

      1. Ohhh and this is my favorite part!

The best thing to do is to find a good place to hide — the more dense material between you and the outside world, the better — then wait until the rescuers can make their way to help you.

So be sure you have a good hidey hole.  Seriously, several of my friends at a meeting yesterday were loosing their shit over this.  Is it really something anyone fears.  Hell – I spent my childhood being terrified of nuclear war and hiding under my desk.  What good is hiding under a desk – apparently NO GOOD.

So Trump is an ass and war is a money-making proposition for the wealthy and their children don’t have to go to war so what fuck do they give…not one fuck that is how many.

Don’t let the media, democrats or republicans make you live in FEAR!

          22. Yeah, and a family in Israel died duct taping the house shut

I remember reading that a child in the U.S. died after her parents sealed the kid’s room with plastic and duct tape, but I can’t find the article. 7 billion articles pop up about JonBenét Ramsey

        11. wait for rescue

Lol. If a nuke lands withinn 200 miles of you, there wont be any rescue. Youre on your own….coughing up blood

…and you think you’re going to stop this simply by ‘pulling a lever’, in a booth, behind a curtain, every 2 years? - Know yourself. And if you need help with that, call the FBI. -  There is only ONE solution to this mess:  New Party !

        75. re: those 1950 air raid drills –

at our Catholic grammar school, they had the whole school come down to the auditorium and crouch under the folding chairs.  Made me wonder every time, what good will it be to be under a folding chair with the whole 3 floors of the school on top of me?  At least fire drills make sense.

I feel much better since I've given up hope

      2. Wonder what they think the retaliation target will be.

Maybe people in D.C. think they are too far away.  Ha!  A tiny bomb dropped on a tiny island off Alaska will explode this country beyond any control by the establishment.  They are playing with fire.

And no those people all live in a bubble my friend.  I was there for 9/11 and people were “shocked” the nation could be attacked in such a way – the Pentagon – really.  I too was surprised – I thought for sure they had a dome over the city – but no…just dumb old men and women thinking they “got this”.

      16. Screw that

I’m anywhere near a nuclear bomb blasting, I’m going toward it to get it over with.

These crazy fucks, trump included, would not surprise me in using it. (Click through your article to the nuclear arms race link.)

We may not have dropped any nuclear bombs during the cold war.  But in Khe Sanh, “During the 66-day siege, U.S. planes, dropping 5,000 bombs daily, exploded the equivalent of five Hiroshima-sized atomic bombs in the area.”

        20. I think they are all mad Mary.

Truly mad.  They truly live in some bubble and have no idea that the actions they take affect them too or will affect their children and grandchildren.  It is like they have no idea that the hell they desire will be pretty ugly for them as well.  Heck – push people far enough, take their food, scare the batshit crazy into them and they might find their heads on pikes!

Thankfully I think there are some aliens out in space that will stop the nuclear destruction of the planet (albeit they may let all the people expire first)…okay I don’t really believe in aliens – but I can hope.

You can look to disasters where most try to help each other. We were without power for 6days in DC and people barbecued together. Checked on older neighbors. Hell when we did an “icee run” we grabbed enough for everyone on our little block so they could keep milk cold.

People are generally good and want to be good.

        69. It never ceases to amaze me ..

that the people in the halls of power in the US NEVER learn.

Even after dropping the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki; any sensible individual would arrive at the conclusion that using a nuclear weapon would, thenceforth, be indefensible, being, as it is, a zero sum proposition (any retaliation/escalation would guarantee that there would be NO winners). Yet, it was not long after, at Dien Bien Phu; that the Americans offered the use of such weapons to the French (Operation Vulture) – this was even before what you know of as the Vietnam War.

As Margot Kidder wrote last year of the American establishment; you kill and you kill and you kill; and still you remain proud.

When will these fools ever learn.

          77. Never. Sadly

Luckily, they have not been used since WWII. But the fact they’re still being made and Trump does not want to re-up START, signifies they still think this is an option.

I’m sorry but if some country or group should ever attack us, or anyone, with a nuclear weapon, the thought of an all out nuclear response is reprehensible.

I don’t understand. This doesn’t compute in my brain

with a father who was a SAC pilot, I learned one thing:

To choose living locations that are high on the strike list. If we reach the point of nuclear war, I don’t want to survive for the aftermath.

I’ve outlived many of my friends, I’ve lived longer than many stellar lights of the music industry, the entertainment industry, and I know my best years are likely behind me, so I don’t really worry about me; I worry about, yes, the children; I worry about my loved ones who would survive me.

Like you, I lived through 9/11, and decided not to flee because dammit this is MY home, my life; I’m staying.  When I’m ready to go, I’ll go.

And where would we run too?  I don’t really believe there will be nuclear war and that this is just another tactic to scare people. However, if I am wrong I will stay in San Diego, crack open the good stuff and do my best to help my neighborhood.

Fear serves no one and in fact is often the trap that aids the monster making war.

      59. The Deep State insists that we live in perpetual fear, so that it can

hide all the wars we are already producing. Those involved in this

propaganda have planned this no matter, who would win the WH.

First it was Cold War #2 possibly leading to a hot one. Now it is

NK, which would involve China as well. No, these people are not

stupid at all. They are clearly aware of the Orwellian idea that a

Wait for rescuers – what rescuers??  TPTB will all be in their bunkers, attended by top medical staff and protected by any available military or police officers.  There will be nobody to rescue those who get to a “better” shelter!!

Are they that delusional that they believe anything larger than a remnant of the population can survive a nuclear strike, or are they lying to get people to think “oh, it won’t be so bad”?

        90. Wasn't planning on surviving Flygirl

Hiroshima was a horrific act…even if it shortened the war – it killed children and families not soldiers (it pains me to even imply killing soldiers is okay).  I am a hopeful that no one would ever detonate a nuclear device and that this is not even a concept we must discuss.  However, in an attempt to raise more fear and make people think the democratic party will save us all (which it most certainly will not) we are subjected to such silliness as “hiding inside” during a nuclear attack.

I am not near my children right now and could not get to them in time….I would only lay dying hoping they would be okay.

      96. 1954 called and wants its Cold War back

In addition to news stories about surviving nuclear blasts, it’s interesting to note that we also have returned to an era of histrionics regarding Russia. Back then, of course, Russia was the U.S.S.R. ( you don’t know how lucky you are, boy…”), but the tactics establishment Democrats are using are very similar to the McCarthy’s Red Scare tactics.

However, McCarthy, to his small credit in this case, wasn’t using these scare tactics to cover up his complicity in rigging a Democratic primary nomination so that it favored the unlikable establishment candidate. He just wanted power, like most politicians.

What’s even more interesting is that many of the major players in the Third Red Scare have connections to Ukraine, a country who’s oligarchs are still miffed that Crimea ASKED to go back to the Russian Federation. Both Ukraine and Russia want Crimea’s access to the Black Sea, for different reasons and Ukrainian oligarchs are pissed that the precious land they hoarded bought is now back on Russian soil.

      Glenn Greenwald writes:

A frequent weapon for Democrats in the 2016 election is to publicly malign those they regard as critics and adversaries as Russia sympathizers, Putin stooges, or outright agents of the Kremlin. To put it mildly, this is not a new tactic in U.S. political discourse, and it’s worth placing it in historical context. That’s particularly true given how many people have now been targeted with this attack.

Strongly insinuating that the GOP nominee, Donald Trump, has nefarious, possibly treasonous allegiances to Moscow has migrated from Clinton-loyal pundits into the principal theme of the Clinton campaign itself. “The depth of Trump’s relationship with the Kremlin is revealing itself by the day,” her website announced yesterday, and vital “questions” must be answered “about Trump’s cozy relationship with Russia.” The Clinton campaign this weekend released a 1-minute video that, over and over, insinuates Trump’s disloyalty in the form of “questions” – complete with menacing pictures of Red Square. Democrats cheered wildly, and really have not stopped cheering, ever since the ex-Acting CIA Director (who, undisclosed by the NYT, now works for a Clinton operative) went to The New York Times to claim “that Mr. Putin had recruited Mr. Trump as an unwitting agent of the Russian Federation.”

But this smear tactic extends far beyond Trump. It is now used to vilify anyone perceived to be an impediment to Clinton’s victory. When WikiLeaks published thousands of DNC emails shortly before the Democratic Convention, which ultimately forced the resignation of four top officials, it was instantly asserted that it was The Russians who gave them those emails (even though The Washington Post cited an intelligence official as saying that “the intelligence community . . . has not reached a conclusion about who passed the emails to WikiLeaks” and “We have not drawn any evidentiary connection to any Russian intelligence service and WikiLeaks — none”). Democrats not only treated this evidence-free conspiracy theory as Truth, but – following the Clinton campaign – proceeded to smear WikiLeaks as a Kremlin operation:

      https://theintercept.com/2016/08/08/dems-tactic-of-accusing-adversaries-of-kremlin-ties-and-russia-sympathies-has-long-history-in-us/

(If you haven’t already read this Intercept article, please take the time to do so. Greenwald outdoes himself providing specific examples of the Third Red Scare we’re currently experiencing)

        97. Excellent link to the most excellent post!

Sometimes we forget that all that is being done today has been tried before.  Thankfully McCarthy failed and we can only hope that someone is Clinton’s Welch….I had hope for Bernie – seems he may be using the Russia scare for his own purposes – we shall see.

“Joseph N. Welch, a soft-spoken lawyer with an incisive wit and intelligence, represented the Army. During the course of weeks of hearings, Welch blunted every one of McCarthy’s charges. The senator, in turn, became increasingly enraged, bellowing “point of order, point of order,” screaming at witnesses, and declaring that one highly decorated general was a “disgrace” to his uniform. On June 9, 1954, McCarthy again became agitated at Welch’s steady destruction of each of his arguments and witnesses. In response, McCarthy charged that Frederick G. Fisher, a young associate in Welch’s law firm, had been a long-time member of an organization that was a “legal arm of the Communist Party.” Welch was stunned. As he struggled to maintain his composure, he looked at McCarthy and declared, “Until this moment, Senator, I think I never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness.” It was then McCarthy’s turn to be stunned into silence, as Welch asked, “Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last?” The audience of citizens and newspaper and television reporters burst into wild applause. Just a week later, the hearings into the Army came to a close. McCarthy, exposed as a reckless bully, was officially condemned by the U.S. Senate for contempt against his colleagues in December 1954.”
