(AFP) The United States no longer believes that Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories are illegal, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced Monday, in the latest pro-Israel shift by Washington.

The statement puts the United States at odds with virtually all countries and UN Security Council resolutions and comes just as centrist Benny Gantz races to form a government to replace Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a close ally of President Donald Trump.

The move will surely be interpreted as a boost for Netanyahu, who is struggling to stay in power after failing to form a coalition government.

Pompeo denied such a motivation, saying: “The timing of this was not tied to anything that had to do with domestic politics anywhere in Israel or otherwise.”

All previous USA administrations before the year of 2016 say the Israeli settlements in the West Bank were illegal.

Now the Trump Administration a.k.a. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo say on further study, we have determined the settlements are legal.

On a further study of the Trump administration, somebody is on drugs or took a hard wallop to the head with the stupid stick.

Hint for some that think Trump is Vladimir Putin puppet: Vladimir Putin and the Russian Federation consider the settlements illegal.  Trump bends over backwards for his actual masters like Netanyahu and Sheldon Adelson and the Saudi Royals.

As an atheist the more I learn about it the more I realize religion is tearing that place apart and I blame mostly Christians in the US for this mess.

Tulsi Gabbard - "Not only are they saying that about me, they are basically sending this message out to every veteran in this country, every service member, every American, anyone watching at home fighting for peace and who was calling for an end to these regime change wars ... they are saying that you are also a Russian asset, that you are also a traitor to this country,"

Illegal? All they do is take people’s homes and give them to different people. What’s wrong with that?

well in all fairness, every previous administration called them illegal… and then kept on throwing money and weapons and political immunity at Israel anyway. So no administration has ever treated these colonies as being illegal.

Trump ‘Pandering to His Extremist Base’ on Israeli Settlements, Says Bernie Sanders

“Not only do Trump and his administration believe they’re above the law of THIS LAND, they believe they are above international law by announcing that the ‘U.S.’ (cause they don’t speak for me) doesn’t see illegal settlements in Palestine as ‘inconsistent with international law,'” said Sarsour.

The enthusiasm from Pompeo over Monday’s change in policy, opined Palestinian leader Hanan Ashrawi, is likely based in his theocratic Christianity.

“Another blow to international law, justice, and peace by a Biblical absolutist waiting for the ‘rapture,'” tweeted Ashrawi.

Council on American-Islamic Relations national executive director Nihad Awad, in a statement, concurred.

“It is obvious that Donald Trump’s panic over his looming impeachment is motivating him to try to solidify the most extreme parts of his political base,” said Awad. “To reject international law and the rights of the Palestinian people who suffer under an illegal occupation contradicts our nation’s claimed support for justice and human rights.”

I will continue to think of the settlements as illegal and unethical.
