Bulk foods though, those have been around since at least the 60s and maybe even before. It didn’t use to be an upper income thing — indeed, the uppers were the first to get into the opposite tendency as I remember. When/where I grew up, an older country way of living was still partly in force. It had disappeared even there by the early 80s; the Reagan recession was a big dividing line.
