      I find myself looking at the name of the poster before the thread titles but would prefer an automated solution if one exists.

      If you think a poster has violated one of the site rules, though, please report it.

        @ohiobarbarian

        If a post violates site rules, notably the rule against personal attacks, to whom should it be reported, with So Far From Heaven gone?

        If an Ignore function could be implemented, that might help.  People who are upset when they read anything that contradicts their preconceptions could block the members who persist in troubling them in this fashion.  Then they’d never see the posts that prompt them to lash out.

          I can understand why some would want a forum where no one disagrees with them, though.  But the only way, really, to control lashing out, er, disagreements, is to have one’s very own forum.  Or to migrate to more agreeable-to-them pastures.

            but it would be nice to put them on mute, like other commercials.

              I think of it as “as a member of this community, I would like to know what utter bullshit is being thrown around here by trolls” – for one thing, we are judged by outsiders who can read everything.  And it is useful to see what garbage the Democratic Party is currently shoveling out.   Also, why should trolls be able to leave their droppings with no push-back?  Conversely, if someone does not want push-back, then they should block those who push back, the onus is on them.  Two sorts of posters want blocking – ones who do not want to see the trolls, and those who do not wish to be disagreed with.  The second sort can block those who disagree, if they cannot handle disagreement; they just want a an agreeable audience, not a discussion

                as nice as it would be to put obnoxious mongering on mute, that tool is one of censorship, and we know how important that is to our would be rulers and lords of technology.

                I am pretty sure we have all been put on ignore, in ways we can’t easily perceive.

                Just bitching about it isn’t going to move the football an inch. I think that part is a dangerous pressure relief valve that let’s people feel like they have had their say, when they have not been heard, nor had their (or the public) interest represented.

                We are going to have to construct methods of forcing real changes, if we want any at all.

          If you click on Report above the post, you can report any post that you see as a personal attack. There is a dropdown box with Personal Attack, and other violations, in it. All of the mods will get an email, and if we reach a consensus to remove that post, we will, and warn the poster.

            @ohiobarbarian

            A possible minor improvement would be if the person reporting a post would automatically receive notification of the outcome of the mods’ discussion.  There are presumably more important subjects to address, though.

      I find it a bit useful to see just what the Dems are contemptuously throwing at us, though.    Takes the place of Fox and CNN, no commercials, and no being continually nauseated by Maddow’s eye-popping bizarre blather.   Horrible thought – are they going to keep the Putin!!!  Russia!!! stuff up until elections, or will there be some even worse rough beast slouching towards Americans?  And what do the trolls think they are accomplishing?  Just in-your-face bullshit, really; no matter what happens in the Ukraine, I sincerely doubt anyone at JPR will start supporting Biden and his crew, if they were disinclined to do that in the first place.  What is going on means nothing to Americans except as an excuse for inflation and bigger profits to Wall Street, and more lying pandering election propaganda.

        Maybe it’s frustrated warmongering authoritarianism that boils up inside folks who buy and sell lies?

      Is to block those who often post things with which the majority disagree. It really only involves one issue: Ukraine. Before that it was covid-19. You have options: ignore them, call them names, accuse them of being paid interlopers, or engage in discussion. The last option requires the use of thinking, logic, argumentation, etc. so it would be easier just to block them.
