Israel threatens to 'destroy' Syrian air defence systems

Jerusalem (AFP) – Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Sunday threatened to destroy Syrian air defence systems after they fired ground-to-air missiles at Israeli warplanes carrying out strikes.

“The next time the Syrians use their air defence systems against our planes we will destroy them without the slightest hesitation,” Lieberman said on Israeli public radio.

Israeli warplanes hit several targets in Syria on Friday, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying the strikes targeted weapons bound for Lebanon’s Shiite Hezbollah movement.

Syria’s military said it had downed one of the Israeli planes and hit another as they were carrying out the pre-dawn strikes

    So to clear this up:

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman demands diplomatic immunity for Israeli jets attacking Syria,???????

Israel “will not hesitate” to destroy Syria’s air defense systems if Syria ever again attempts to defend against Israeli fighter jets which are attacking Syria   over Syrian airspace……….????????

        2. Here's an issue to be brought before the UN General Assembly: A country

does not have the right to protect itself from Israeli war planes.  I’ll be waiting to hear from those who will argue for Israeli warmaking impunity.

          17. You won't get that argument from me…

We’re funding Israeli war machines all this time to continue the MIC on behalf of “our friends”?

      3. The IAF should expect to lose more aircraft if it tries.

They also risk getting directly into a conflict with Russian forces in the process.  Maybe, that’s the plan.

          6. I was thinking the same thing. It doesn't matter if Trump wants to avoid war.

The shadow government can do as they wish. But they are already pushing the envelope. Too many citizens are suspecting the nature of their game. Certainly the nations of the world are onto their malfeasance.

      8. Simple solution.

Don’t fly your military planes over another country’s sovereign territory.

      9. Russia will step in on that ME state hard if that happens

Then the US will be faced with a choice of if defending Israel is enough to spark a major war with the Russians.  As shown by past examples they don’t ‘play’ when it comes to Syria-especially now.

      10. How dare you defend yourselves against us!

If you do, we will just attack you more.

The Israeli sense of entitlement is off the charts. Of course when the US is unconditionally standing behind you, it’s easy to be the bully.

        13. Yes "We'll destroy your defenses"

“because defending yourself from our bombs is an act of aggression against us.”  Only Israel would dare say that. Only the U.S. would agree with their lunacy. I hope Syria fights back.

      12. We should get deeply imvolved right away!

We must get in there and do something about something. Don’t ask me what, since I don’t know any more than anyone else, meaning nothing.  But if the Israelis and the Russians are there, well, by golly, we should be there too.  We are the United States!  We don’t just sit around on our hands!

      15. Avigdor Lieberman is a frothing at the mouth hardliner.

(And, what a surprise, he is Holy Joe’s cousin.)

Someone really needs to put a muzzle on Avigdor before he and his ilk of fundamentalist crazies starts WW3.

Do they honestly think the Russians are going to stand by and let Israel attack Syria after all the money Russia has just spent there?

Or, has the Deep State gotten enough of a grip on Trump to force him to start the war that Hillary wanted to start.

If this statement is anything but an off-his-meds outburst, its time to start digging that fallout shelter.

        19. That seems obvious, Hezbollah has been helping save Syria's ass.

Iran, Hezbollah, Syria, they are all conspiring to save Syria’s ass.

        20. This is very frustrating.

Many voters held their nose and voted for Trump to keep Clinton out of the White House. A big part of the reason for keeping her out was that she was talking like she wanted to escalate the conflicts in the Mideast. Listening to her it was obvious that she wanted WWIII to start in that part of the world. Her talk of no-fly zones and confronting Russia was very scary to say the least. Now we have Syria supplying arms to Hezbollah because Hezbollah supports them. Russia is providing arms and expertise to Syria because they want a presence in the Mideast. Israel is attacking the arms shipments because they do not want Hezbollah using those rockets to kill Israelis. Syria shoots anti-aircraft missiles at the Israeli planes because they are over Syria. Israel does not want any of their planes shot down and threatens to take out the Syrian AA batteries supplied by Russia. Trump is dumb enough to send troops to Syria. Now we have troops on the ground, and vulnerable to injury, death, or worse, capture.  We have no idea if our current State Department is up to the task of defusing this situation, and Trump is a loose cannon. Clinton may get her wish of WWIII in the Mideast after all. If you believe in prayer, now might be a very good time to ask the Almighty for a little Divine Intervention.

      23. It would make sense if they were talking about Golan Heights

but Palmyra is right in the middle of Syria.  And the government recently reclaimed it.  WTF?

Time to start counting fighter aircraft.  How many does Russia have in the area, and how many does Israel have?  Would Trump provide defense against a counterattack?
