The intersection of Woodcock and Kitchen-Dick is about a mile from me.

named “Woodcock”, but “Kitchen-Dick”? What does that even mean?

It’s common to name a road according to the places it connects. So Kitchen-Dick runs between Kitchen and Dick. I think maybe those are just family names representing two farms, since the road is only about two miles long and there are no towns or villages with those names. But there may have been at one time.

The homesteading families at either end of the road.

I’m only used to roads in Houston suddenly changing names as you’re driving along, not what the thinking process was behind the changes, including this one 🙂

Drove me nuts when I lived in Virginia. Major arterials had five or six different names because they passed through multiple jusrisdictions.
