During remarks announcing new executive actions to curb gun violence Thursday, Biden took a detour as he imagined being able to ask God to immediately change one gun law, and it wasn’t eliminating assault weapons or “bump stocks.” He would have the almighty let people sue gun-makers.

“This is the only outfit that is exempt from being sued. If I get one thing on my list — (if) the Lord came down and said, ‘Joe, you get one of these’ — give me that one,” Biden said at a ceremony at the Rose Garden. “Most people don’t realize, the only industry in America, billion-dollar industry, that can’t be sued, exempt from being sued, are gun manufacturers,” Biden continued.

Biden, who has spent years writing and fighting gun laws in Washington, is referring to the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), a 2005 law that largely shields firearm manufacturers and dealers from lawsuits when people use their products illegally, such as by shooting someone.

“He wants to drive us out of business,” Mark Oliva, the director of public affairs for the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the firearms industry trade group, said of Biden. “So it’s a very scary proposition, and we take it very seriously.”

Bernie Sanders has long been opposed to this sort of thing, so the divide on this issue crosses all sorts of political and ideological lines.

However, their products are designed to kill people, so there is that.

We require everyone to buy insurance and if car manufacturers make a really bad car, they are open to litigation. Why shouldn’t we require the samthing with guns and their manufacturers?

They both can be deadly weapons. But one we control and the other we throw up our hands as if nothing can be done.

Working class people can’t afford that option, so that’s a bullshit argument as far as I’m concerned. I have a problematic car that was sold to me on an illegal contract, and there’s nothing I can do unless I cough up 3 grand for a retainer.

Sanders objected to efforts to make gun dealers liable for selling guns to people who passed background checks and later commit a crime. Manufacturers are only subject to product liability, in theory, if the gun goes off due to a manufacturing defect. Which is as it should be.

Litigation is for anyone who can call the number of the law firm sponsoring this show. One lawyer in my locality has the jingle “one call, that’s all”. I’m all for subjecting gun manufacturers to that truly American experience — explaining why it’s not your fault, in court.

That one call that’s all is bullshit and nothing but.

He has a parade of clients in his commercials, each one with a testimonial of how much money they got by calling his law office to handle their personal injury case.

I still say feed the gun manufacturers to the personal injury lawyers; they will eat up and spit out what no one else will.

BTY, the 2nd Amendment does not give a Constitutional Right to possess firearms. That was a Supreme decision.
The 2nd Amendment does however ties having firearms to being in a Militia. Somehow that first part must have been written in invisible ink for many, because it is seldom mentioned by the gun lovers.
