(Politico) Joaquin Castro, a Democratic congressman from Texas and chairman of the presidential campaign of his twin brother, Julián, fired back on Tuesday after being castigated on social media for tweeting the names and occupations of his constituents who’d maxed out their donations to President Donald Trump.
His tweet contained a graphic titled “Who’s funding Trump?” and listed the names of 44 people who purportedly contributed the maximum amount allowed by campaign finance laws. Their occupations, which, like donor names, are public record, were also listed. Close to a dozen of the donors shown are retirees.
“Sad to see so many San Antonians as 2019 maximum donors to Donald Trump,” Castro wrote, naming local businesses whose owners were on the list. “Their contributions are fueling a campaign of hate that labels Hispanic immigrants as ‘invaders.’”
The graphic, which Castro indicated had originated with a Democratic activist group, was blasted out to the more than 27,000 followers of his congressional campaign account on Tuesday afternoon. It came as politicians’ loaded rhetoric has come under closer scrutiny after a mass shooting over the weekend in El Paso that killed 22 and wounded dozens of others. Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric, which mirrored language used by the suspected shooter in a racist manifesto, has loomed over the tragedy in the days since.

I’m no Castro fan, and I met both the Castro brothers when I was much younger. They are Vichy Democrats, however, I have to give a huge
to Joaquin for following in Henry B. Gonzalez’ footsteps and exposing Trump’s wealthy San Antonio donors to the community.
One of them is Bill Miller’s BBQ, a really good fast food BBQ place(at least it was in the 70s and 80s) that’s a San Antonio icon. This will probably hurt their sales. Well, so sad, too bad. Americans have the right to boycott, and the right to know who donates to whom. The wailing from Republicans that Castro is somehow doxxing their donors is music to my ears.
The thing to watch here is Nancy Pelosi’s reaction, because gathering money from donors is her only talent. I expect her to demand an apology from Castro. I could be wrong, but we shall see.
It’s the corruption, stupid.

Cry me a river. This information is publicly available. They’re just pissed because he tied in Trump’s hate message.

@thouartthat Thanks! I see Valero Oil on there, no surprise. Insurance, a corporate law firm type, real estate, construction, some familiar names who definitely had Reagan/Bush signs in their yards, same old, same old assholes.

I’d be more interested in seeing Joe Biden’s donor list. He’s a Republican too.

If I could afford to donate the max to a candidate I would be proud of who I supported and though I may not go around bragging about it I would not be ashamed if someone else exposed the fact.
If these people are ashamed of donating the max to Trump maybe they should rethink who they support with their money, or even without money.
I do understand why a small business owner would not want to alienate customers, so they should be smart, remain publicly neutral, and make no donations at all.

@asimplegame , that’s good advice. Small businesses whose owners advocate political positions often go out of business. I had a perfectly good mechanic who ended up out of business after telling all his customers that Obama was deliberately foreclosing on white people so blacks could move in and go on Section 8. My current mechanic is a Bernie supporter, but he only told me that because he saw my bumper sticker.
Then there’s the local tavern up the street. It was a nice place with good, reasonably priced food, but the owner proudly displayed a picture of Trump behind the bar. Maybe a third of his customer base was black, and probably another third were whites who didn’t care for the orange weaselshit. Now the place is visibly in decline, but that damned fool picture is still up. I know because I walked in last week, saw it was still there, and turned around and walked out.
It’s not like there isn’t a competitor across the street with more sense.

Well done, Joaquin!
I would like to remind you that U.S. health insurance companies do not contribute anything to health care. They are only a PARASITIC middle man receiving an undeserved cut of "FREE MONEY".

Another Politico hit piece.
What Castro did is in no way related to the El Paso shooter.
Politico is disgusting.
