DeSantis: Cruise ships not immune from states COVID ‘passport’ ban
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Gov. Ron DeSantis isn’t wavering from his anti-vaccination “passport” stance as a cruise line has received federal approval to set sail from a Florida port next month, if passengers and crew members are vaccinated against COVID-19.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, the governor maintained that Florida won’t exempt cruise lines from a new law, which goes into effect July 1, that imposes a fine of $5,000 for each customer asked to provide proof of a coronavirus vaccination.
DeSantis said he also expects the state to win its lawsuit challenging federal restrictions that have idled the cruise-ship industry throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are going to enforce Florida law,” DeSantis told reporters Friday at the LifeScience Logistics Distribution Center in Lakeland. “I mean, we have Florida law. We have laws that protect the people and the privacy of our citizens, and we are going to enforce it. In fact, I have no choice but to enforce it.”
Forget about any idea of ‘herd immunity’ you might still have & forget about any hopes the vaccine will stop covid transmission. It’s gonna start up again in fall/winter…
And notice how deSantis is fining business cause he doesn’t like the way they’re operating. So much for right-wing ‘freedom’. Question is, who’s desantis doing this for and what’s the goal? If one were conspiracy minded, one might think the goal is to kill people a/o keep them ‘unfree’ and at home buying shit from azon forever

New slogan after Royal Caribbean reverses its policy to require proof of vaccination for its cruises:
“Experience Royal Caribbean, experience Covid”
Only fools are gonna go on cruises anyway, but especially under these conditions.
But still a lot of fools around

This is Desantis’ version of that. Trying to appeal to his right wing knuckle dragger anti-vax political base. He’s trying to set himself up as the “New Trump”.
POTUS OR V-POTUS ambitions for 2024? Probably.

It’s not just this mook, it seems to be a new strategy on the part of firebrand republican public figures in general. Smarting from the the shit gibbon losing the election and the death of Rush Limpballs, their governing strategy has been reduced to being snotty, sneering trolls.

Expensive virtue signaling, and the GOP regulating big business.
What’ll they think of next?
So much win.
I can’t see that anyone wants to be trapped on a plague ship, or that the cruise lines would want anyone telling them what to do (unless they actually want to be told ‘no vaccination certs’ ok so that they have no liability). Can’t imagine this is a good way to recruit new customers though.

…of veterans in Florida. Will those VA officials be subject to fine? It’s absurd. Most companies operate in interstate commerce. Shipping is subject to federal law. How can the state interfere?
The first time this matter comes up in state court it will be either be removed, enjoined or blocked in some manner by a Federal court.

He claims if businesses require the vaccine that it will create a “two-tiered society” and eventually people won’t be able to go to school, get a job, or go to the store without submitting to vaccination.
Many conservatives feel the government is trying to use the private sector as a backdoor approach to mandate the vaccine and force vaccine passports. Because such a vaccine mandate would never be able to pass through typical legislative action. They could never pass a mandatory vaccine. There is just absolutely no way that would make it through this Congress. So now many states are looking to actively restrict the private sector from mandating them.
