I don’t want to believe how ignorant this person is.

@hubheaver  There are plenty of her videos in JPR.  Sorry she does not reinforce your preconceived notions about Covid-19.

She is wrong on this issue. 27 more people are known to have died of Corona yesterday in my county alone.  There’s probably more.  I’m not coming out of quarantine anytime soon.  It’s about to get a lot worse with kids going back to school.

The Japanese proved that mask-wearing and a national health care system could contain this virus. The Swedes opted to not even require mask-wearing, and I think several thousand people died unnecessarily there, but the spread of it in Sweden appears to have stopped. We almost never hear about the Japanese experience, and all we hear about the Swedish one is from who I call Covid alarmists.

You know, the folks who freak out and act like Covid is the second coming of smallpox to the New World.

The American denialists are just as silly, because there is this thing called Covid-19 and it really has at least contributed to the deaths of nearly 400,000 Americans, most of them elderly with pre-existing conditions or, I’m convinced, on immunosuppresant Big Pharma drugs, but without Covid the fact remains most would probably have lived years longer than they did.

I’m an essential worker and see the real effects of both Covid and the half-assed lockdown measures up close and personal. Four more of my coworkers tested positive for Covid in the last two weeks, and I was exposed to two of them. The authorities know this, yet I am required to report to work anyway. My stepdaughter works in a daycare center and has been exposed multiple times to children who have tested positive, but she gets no time off and no paid sick time.

Most schools here have in person classes part-time and internet instruction part-time. Parents who work are forced to put their kids in daycare, at a cost of at least $1200 a month, where people with only GEDs are charged with overseeing internet instruction. The owner of my stepdaughter’s daycare spends all of her time trying to get local government grants for both her business and her clients in an effort to keep the place open. She is getting no help at all from either the federal government or the state of Ohio, yet she’s required to have her employees take over teachers’ duties.

We’ve both already had the damned thing, and have exhibited zero symptoms since. In fact, physically I feel better than I have in years, and haven’t caught a summer cold for the first time in decades. That’s why whenever someone screams WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE! I can’t help but laugh at them. And I’m far from the only one, and as the pandemic slowly burns itself out and mutates into less deadly forms, they’re going to look more and more ridiculous to us.

There will be a vaccine by next summer at the latest, but meanwhile millions of jobs have been lost forever and millions of small businesses have shut down, never to reopen. And who benefits? The rich, large corporations, and those fortunate enough to be retired or able to work from home who have saved all sorts of money on travel costs. As always, it is the working class who suffers the most, and just because many want everything to reopen so they have a chance at survival does not mean that they are all right wing Trump supporters.

Some are, but most are just ordinary people wanting to be able to keep a roof over their family’s heads and food on the table, and both are becoming increasingly difficult. This is a powder keg that is just starting to explode. Desperate people do desperate things, no matter how their privileged “betters” judge them.

It is better to vote for what you want and not get it than to vote for what you don't want and get it.--Eugene Debs

Show me a man that gets rich by being a politician, and I'll show you a crook.--Harry Truman

Cases spiked up in Japan again after it appeared they were under control

        Especially in Tokyo & Osaka

(Still way lower than here but deaths increased too)

This increasing sense of dissatisfaction with the government’s response to the virus comes as Japan appears to be on the brink of another major Covid-19 outbreak. For the past 12 days, the Health Ministry has recorded more than 900 daily infections and Friday marked a new daily high of 1,601 new cases nationwide…Many of those cases are in Tokyo, the world’s most populous city, where fears persist that an untraceable outbreak could quickly spiral out of control. For most of May and June, Tokyo managed to contain the number of new cases to fewer than 100 each day. But cases have steadily increased since then, hitting a single-day high of 472 new infections on August 1. To date, more than 15,000 cases of Covid-19 have been identified in the Japanese capital….

Appears to have peaked in August though

“Lockdown” protestors in Germany were/are predominantly right wing.

Just like the covid deniers here in the USA.

@Salemcourt, COVID19 is nothing to trifle with or be cavalier about.  It is, at best, highly irresponsible to put anyone needlessly at risk–particularly young children.

This virus is still very new–we know nothing of long-term effects.
