Lawmaker gets restraining order against another lawmaker
    Updated 7:37 pm, Friday, March 9, 2018

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania state lawmaker who says a fellow lawmaker pulled a gun on her and threatened to kill her has gotten a restraining order against him.

State Rep. Tarah Toohil alleges that fellow Republican Rep. Nick Miccarelli pointed a gun at her in 2012 and on another occasion, when the two were in a car, warned he would crash the vehicle while speeding 100 mph on a highway, The Citizens’ Voice reported .

    1. Wow! 1 GOP State Rep. publicly calling out other GOP Rep. Unprecedented !

Last Friday, when it was announced that Republican leadership had called on this man to resign, I posted on a JPR thread, “This is the GOP leadership calling all the shots on this guy. His 2 accusers are described as “a state official” and “a political consultant”. Betcha anything they are very well-connected w/in the GOP.”  But I am gob-smacked that it was an elected official.

I worked my last 10 years pre-retirement as a staff attorney for the Dem. caucus in the Penn. State House of Representatives – there were strong intra party disagreements within the privacy of the respective caucuses, but the linens were never this dirty and never aired in public.  There are so relatively few female GOP State Representives (20 women out of 121), it never occurred to me one of his accusers might be at that level within the GOP.

Here is a photo of her w/her 2 daughters: Looking at her web page, http://www.reptoohil.com/ I see that she is extremely active and involved, with impressive credentials and connections, and a number of awards.  Note the connection to the Dauphin County DA.  Dauphin County is the home of Harrisburg, the state capitol, so any crap this man pulled at the capitol itself would come under the purview of this DA re whether to pursue criminal prosecution.

Toohil obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Penn State Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle in 2008. While in law school, she worked as a certified legal intern for Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico. Rep. Toohil was also co-captain of the Moot Court Team.   Prior to attending law school, Rep. Toohil was a paralegal for Attorney (and now U.S. Congressman) Matthew Cartwright at Munley, Munley and Cartwright.

Rep. Toohil is a member of the Lower Luzerne Bar Association, Hazleton Area Lady Lawyers, Young Lawyers and the Wilkes-Barre Law Library Association, for which she currently serves as chairperson of the Legislation Committee.  She is also a member of the Elks Lodge, Hazleton Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Circle 200 Women of Northeastern PA, AAUW Breaking Through Barriers for Women and Girls, Hazleton POWER, and she is a Leadership Wilkes-Barre alumnus.

In addition, Rep. Toohil serves on the Pennsylvania Children’s Trust Fund, the Statewide Near Death and Fatality Review Board, and the Supreme Court’s Language Access Advisory Group. Rep. Toohil was appointed to serve as the 2016 Pennsylvania state director for the National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL).

Rep. Toohil is the recipient of the Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award from the Anthracite District of the Boy Scouts of America (2015), NFWL Elected Women of Excellence Award (2014), Operation Rising Star Award (2014), Hazleton YWCA PEARL Award (2013), Young Republican of the Year Award (2011), Elks Citizen of the Year Award (2011) and the Margery Scranton Council of Republican Women’s History Month Award (2011).

In contrast, Miccarelli’s bio is very sparse, mainly relying on waving the flag that he was a helicopter door gunner, stationed in Iraq and Kosovo (he can surely claim PTSD as a defense/explanation for his violent and threatening behavior).  http://www.repmiccarelli.net/bio.aspx

    More from the OP link:

Toohil, who has not alleged Miccarelli sexually attacked her, said in her request for the protection order that Miccarelli had attempted to blackmail her by releasing photographs and that he has harassed and stalked her since a relationship between them ended.

She said she has been “in fear for my safety at work” since filing a complaint against him in the state House and that Miccarelli tried to intimidate her to “remain silent” after news of the allegations was first released.
