      A non-profit physician’s group is asking a federal court to immediately order meat and poultry processing plants to test their products for COVID-19, and make the results of their tests public.

      Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), a group that advocates for reducing reliance on animals for scientific research and for preventive medicine, as well as monitors federal food policy, asked for the mandate in a lawsuit filed Wednesday against the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

      The filing comes as Chinese authorities report that routine sample inspections of imported chicken wings from Brazil showed contamination with COVID-19, as did packaging on shrimp from Ecuador.

      In its complaint, PCRM said the USDA wrongly rejected a petition that it filed in May asking to implement new meat and poultry testing requirements for COVID-19, as well as labeling to warn consumers that meat could carry the virus. The organization also claims the agency failed to respond to its requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

      If he really had Covid-19,  he should have the anti-bodies built up to protect him from infection!

      But I believe I read a few years back that the USDA has fuck all to do with food safety, but rather it’s mission statement in its charter is to “promote US agriculture”.

      I’d like to see the results from US packed meat products too

      Yet another reason we need a domestically produced and processed food supply.

      Its just a crap shoot today; meat can be birthed in the US, pastured in peru, slaughtered in mexico, & packaged in Guatemala.

      good luck figuring out where the contamination came from

      not to mention all the fossil fuel inputs to move the same product around the world 10 times.

      Serves capital; if different operations are done in different places, harder for labor to shut it down but easier for capital to if it cares to.

      Can also play seige with the population.

      COVID 19 on meat is not a direct risk to the mortals who eat it, as the virus would be killed by cooking it. But it’s definitely a red flag as to what the conditions must be like in the slaughterhouses where these meat products come from.

      What would be more problematic is if COVID was on fruits & vegetables that are eaten raw. What the Hell are you going to do, bleach them??
