Leaked Sy Hersh audio suggests Seth Rich saga points to larger US intelligence bombshell

When NPR broke the story of Rod Wheeler’s lawsuit against FOX news over coverage of Seth Rich, it seemed as if a consensus would emerge that the reporting was baseless, and that would be the end of that.

But some stories just refuse to end convincingly in “nothing to see here.”

Wheeler’s lawsuit accuses Fox of defamation. And states that Fox coordinated with political interests to push their narrative. He admits he reached too far on his Seth Rich reporting due to pressure from those named in the lawsuit.

But, soon after the lawsuit dropped, secretly recorded conversations were released anonymously on a YouTube channel called “Debunking Rod Wheeler.” The texture of the story became more complicated.

In the cache of four recordings, the one titled “Audio 2” has received the most attention because it appears to be Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Seymour Hersh discussing, among other things, information he received from a well placed FBI insider who has read a computer forensics audit of Seth Rich’s computer. Wheeler’s lawsuit actually mentions a plan to extort Seymour Hersh with an audio recording (page 27 of the complaint).

Here’s the audio file of Sy Hersh that is circulating on YouTube:
    https://youtu.be/giuZdBAXVh0

Hersh has refused to comment on this recording, which is smart. Stepping back from the Seth Rich narrative, for a fuller view of the playing field, I believe Hersh is on to a larger story. It might actually turn out to be lucky for him that the purloined audio has generated so much attention, because if he does have a story near completion, the pre-release interest just shot through the roof.

Take the secretly recorded conversation in the context of Sy Hersh’s interview with Jeremy Scahill on the pilot episode of Intercepted released way back in January, and you’ll find that one thing is consistent in both: Hersh mentions a long-form narrative concerning the Russians, election interference, and the intelligence community. This is Hersh’s story.

Here is the Intercepted Sy Hersh interview which starts at 27:06 — Also access the audio within story posted at The Florida Squeeze.
    https://thefloridasqueeze.files.wordpress.com/2017/08/fl1844876464.mp3

Whatever the context of the secretly recorded audio, it seems reasonable that Hersh isn’t doing legwork for Wheeler and/or FOX news. Whatever he knows about Seth Rich is tangential to another investigation. He even downplays its value to the Seth Rich murder story. And yet, while Hersh isn’t interested in Seth Rich, he claims to know quite a bit about the FBI file on Rich’s computer audit. Why?

The Intercepted interview features Jeremy Scahill chewing the fat with the legendary journalist in his kitchen. It’s recorded around the time of Trump’s inauguration and Scahill is essentially asking Hersh, “How bad it is going to get?” Scahill’s assumption is that a fascist is taking office and we’re witnessing the rewriting of American history in real time.  For the most part, Hersh provides maddeningly vague answers along the lines of ‘we don’t know—we’ll have to wait and see.’

But then Hersh says to Scahill, “I don’t want to tell you too much about what I’m reporting, but I can tell you—the case about [Russia]—there’s a much simpler explanation for what happened.” What the hell is Hersh reporting, and when will it appear?

Turning to the secretly recorded audio, Hersh also refers to a story he is working on regarding hacks vs leaks. “You’re just going to have to trust me…I have a narrative of how that whole fucking thing began. It’s a Brennan operation.”  In the context of this conversation Hersh is signaling that he has nailed something down. He intends to report on this story, in his own way, on his schedule.

Hersh continues, “It was American disinformation, and the f*cking President at one point they were telling the press…the NSA that f*cking c*cksucker Rogers…that we even know who in the GIU, the Russian military intelligence service leaked it. It was all bullshit.”

Profane throughout the audio, Hersh’s righteous indignation is most palpable here, describing an active propaganda campaign coordinated by intelligence agencies during the 2016 election. He is no fan of Trump, but he’s less a fan of intelligence operations on US soil. He is outraged that US officials and intelligence agencies appear to have fabricated lies intended to influence public opinion. The last time this happened the lie got us into a war with Iraq. This time the result could be war with Russia—a conflict that has historically been discussed in nuclear terms. Hersh might say, ‘this is a big f*cking deal.’

if Hersh does move on an article calling-out intelligence agencies for interfering in a US election, you can’t damn well bet money that the entire MSM will line up to take shots at him.

      2. So Seth Rich had a protected drop box and communicated to WikiLeaks

he had shared the password with a couple of friends in case something happened to him ‘It will not solve your problem’ and he wanted money. Did I hear that correctly? Also he had already shared some juicy emails with WikiLeaks?

I am awaiting publication of his story with bated breath.

      Thank you, Brooke.

        5. Answered my question by reading the transcript you provided….

“This is according to the FBI report. What they find is. First of all you need to know some basic facts. There’s no DNC or Podesta email that’s beyond May 21st or May 22nd. The last email from either of those groups. So what the report says in sometime in LATE SPRING, we’re talking June, summer starts June 21st. I don’t know, I’m just saying late spring, early summer, he makes contact with Wikileaks.

That’s in his computer, and he makes contact. Now I have to be careful because I met Julian 10-12 years ago and I stay the fuck away from people like that.  He’s under total surveillance. He’s invited me, When I’m in London a message always comes, see me at the Ecuadorian Ambassador’s. Hey fuck you no way I’m going there. I’ve got enough trouble without being photographed.

They found what he had done. He had submitted a bunch of juicy emails from the DNC. And by the way, you know, it wasn’t hacked. Whatever happened the Democrats wrote this shit. What I know is he offered a sample. An extensive sample, I’m sure dozens of emails and said “I want money.”

Later Wikileaks did get the password. He had a Dropbox, a protected Dropbox. Which isn’t hard to do. You don’t have to be a wizard at IT. He was not a dumb kid.

They got access to the Dropbox. And this was also in the report, he also let people know…the word was passed, “I also shared this with a couple of friends, so if anything happens to me it’s not going to solve your problem. Okay?” I don’t know what that means.

But Wikileaks got access before he was killed.”

          7. that's a very interesting piece of the audio

because Hersh steers clear of making claims he can’t back up. He offers all that wild information and then says, “I don’t what that means.”

Kinda seems like he thinks there is smoke there, but it’s not part of his angle on the story. It’s a rabbit hole that he his determined not to jump down.

            10. I just listened to the entire Rod Wheeler video. Interesting too is a question

about the FBI report. There is definitely a leaker at the FBI–he/she shared the report with Hersh. Wheeler said the Fox News local affiliate was contacted by a former FBI employee who leaked the same info (about Seth Rich and WikiLeaks) to her. Maybe it’s the same person or the FBI has more than one leaker.

This creates more questions now to ponder. These revelations are fascinating.

              11. The leak by the "former FBI employee" is traditionally the way the agency

gets information it wants distributed by the news industry. The FBI has a powerful retired special agents association and  information from this source is often run. This is how active agents get news they want into circulation without danger to their careers.

                  13. The retired special agents association has a sophisticated web site & although

you won’t get any scoops there, a person can get a sense of the reach and power the organization has.

                  And, you’re very welcome.

                15. if i read you right, that would mean the 'leaker' is essentially working

for the agency (leaking with their approval), is that your drift?

                  17. Yes, basically, at least with the approval of peers and probably supervisors.

I haven’t spent a whole lot of time with special agents, but I have spent some, and usually they let you know that they are proud of the FBI & its traditions and that the agency has means to protect itself and punish its perceived enemies. Since I found this out from the horse’s mouth, so to speak, I’ve kept it in the back of my mind for years and think I have seen it in action.

The case in point makes me see it that way and it may indeed be the correct interpretation.

              29. I thought the Wheeler interview was very interesting,,,

and revealing.  MSM is trying to make him out almost as a “con man” who used the Rich death for his own profit because of his affiliation with Faux News.

Whatever it is with Wheeler his explanation of his investigation came off sounding very sincere.  He  may not be the world’s best investigator…but, I didn’t hear “Grandstanding” from him about how he got involved, his curiosity about Rich’s brother and his comments about his brother’s investigation that seemed odd given his brother was murdered whether it was a botched robbery or to prevent him from revealing the full e-mails.  Also, Wheeler’s interviews with some of the people who kept telling him to talk to Rich’s brother.

                31. Yes, I agree. I've seen a few news clips where he says he was told by the

family ‘no questions about emails’. His brother contacted those he was to question and they were told not to answer any questions about emails. His brother works for Northrup Grumman BTW, and was reportedly interferring with the investigation from the beginning. I  also found Wheeler to be sincere. It will be fascinating to hear what is in his report if he is ever allowed to publish it. the other part that was concerning was his mention of the underground organized crime ring– Shawn Lucas, John Jones, Michael Ratner—the plot thickens….

                  32. I listened to the current audio of Rod Wheeler and also an earlier video

when Sean Hannity’s Special got cancelled and Hannity suddenly went on an unannounced vacation for two weeks. In both instances, I too found Rod Wheeler sincere because what he said was not canned. You could actually see his thought process as he spoke and his interview was not just a brief statement but went on for quite a length of time as he explained step by step what he had done and what had transpired. I found him to be quite credible and believable.

He says the family does not want his report released and his lawyer is in discussions with the family’s lawyer. Maybe soon we will know what he found. It also sounded as if his investigation was obstructed at almost every turn.

                      59. It did. He was placed under a gag order. There are two factions at work

One, immediately after Seth Rich’s murder the DNC appointed a ‘spokesperson’ for his family to inoculate them from the press and public. (or to put a lid on it)

Two, shortly thereafter, a generous million/billionaire (Butowsky? I believe it is) upped Assange’s reward by an additional $20k for info leading to his murderer/s and then offered to pay $100,000 so the family could have their own ‘private investigator’ who he hired- Rod Wheeler.

Wheeler is the investigator, but not the family’s spokesperson. So he can investigate all he wants but can not speak.

A unique set up for sure!

Ariana Grande concert there in Birmingham? And he had said earlier that day that he had a most shocking revelation.

I immediately entertained the notion that this was another false flag.

And what I find so funny is that TV journalists almost never do the legwork that long-form print journos do. As a whole, their methods are “he said/she said.”

Wheeler was adhering to this formula which had probably been his formula for his entire career, b/c it’s industry-wide. He thought nothing of it until he got push-back, which he claims came from the DNC and elite Dem circles. That’s not an outrageous claim, especially considering he was reporting in Washington where those circles weild much power.

        6. there is a stray interview of Rod Wheeler

with George Webb which is worth watching just to clock Wheeler’s posture, and catch tidbits that get glossed over. George Webb is a citizen journalist who harks from the Bernie Republican tribe. His body of work is cringeworthy, but he covers so much stuff that if you know what you’re looking for, sometimes he presents an important document, or interview.

In the interview with Rod Wheeler, just by the way Webb suggests that the Wikileaks contact was Craig Murray, and Wheeler assents. Take it FWIW — who knows if Wheeler was paying attention, or meant to affirm the name of the contact, or even knew for sure…but at the time of the interview Wheeler is lawyered-up, which suggests that he has reflected on what he can, and cannot say.

Let me stress that I do NOT vouch for George Webb’s journalism. It pains me to share this…but, it nails down a specific point in time AFTER Wheeler figured out he was hung to dry by FOX, and had started the procedure to file a lawsuit.

          9. I've always thought these Assange comments were interesting.

Assange: Some leaks may have been Russian

          http://thehill.com/policy/cybersecurity/310654-assange-some-leaks-may-have-been-russian

On Sean Hannity’s radio show, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said that hacked Democratic documents sent to reporters at Gawker and The Hill may have come from Russia. But, he said, he is confident the emails he received did not come from the same source.

The Hill and other outlets received documents from a hacker or hackers calling itself “Guccifer 2.0.” Guccifer 2.0 also posted separate documents on its own site. Assange denied knowing Guccifer 2.0 on Hannity’s show Thursday.

“Our source is not the Russian government,” said Assange, later claiming WikiLeaks did not receive its material from any state actor, Russia or otherwise.

          Snip

Assange has been adamant that Russia did not send the files to his site. In fact, his confirmation that a state actor did not send the hacked emails violates a longstanding WikiLeaks policy of not making any comment about sources.

          Snip

Assange also declined to comment on a Daily Mail report that his confidant Craig Murray flew to the United States to retrieve the documents printed on the site. Murray told the Daily Mail that he met with an intermediary in a wooded area near American University in Washington, D.C., who was handing off the documents on behalf of someone with “legal access” to both the DNC and Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta emails.

“Craig Murray is not authorized to talk on behalf of WikiLeaks,” Assange said sternly.

            43. On Guccifer 2.0, forensics show the files were leaked, not hacked

The first two links are to the primary source of the forensics — it’s a deep dive. Below that are some videos that are easier to digest.

I’ll tell you this too, when Guccifer leaked I was working in comms for a Senate campaign for a beloved Congressman. I had already checked the Guccifer documents and found not-much there to be excited about. Also, I wasn’t reporting at the time b/c of conflict of interest. Regardless, I was contacted by a party insider who wanted to tip me off that the Guccifer docs were ***omg, RUSSIAN!***

And further, that they were full of viruses. I’d already scanned and downloaded them and knew there was no virus. Still, my source was hyperventilating, in that way that reminds you of the old story about B’rer Rabbit and Briar Patch. The source REALLY wanted me to believe those docs were Russian, and wanted me to check them out. and on that day, b/c the source was pushing the narrative so hard, I knew something was up. But…honestly, didn’t have time or bandwidth to deal with it.

This source was running for a Congressional seat, and working closely with DNC/DCCC. I believe that they were passing on a narrative that DNC/DCCC wanted to spread. Indie reporters are easy targets b/c we don’t have to answer to an editor about what to write. If the story interests me, I’ll write about it.

When I found this g-2 information months ago, I remembered how my DNC/DCCC source was pushing the Russian narrative so hard. It all added up.

The forensics are unimpeachable. Timestamps are Eastern US, not mother Russia. The data was templated to make it appear to be Russian, but they left fingerprints of the prior author. And the download speed is impossibly fast to be a hack. These docs were moved probably to a thumb drive in one batch. There is a ton more information that will simply make you sick.

          51. Very interesting interview of Rod Wheeler.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention!  I pay almost no attention to corporate news – print or TV/radio – cuz they are such 100% liars and propagandists.  I don’t need this proven to me yet again.  And it’s not good for my heart rate.  So I pretty much missed this whole controversy.  I’m glad, via this interview, to get a feel for Rod Wheeler.  He seems like a stand-up guy to me, very skilled at what he does and very intelligent, and personable.  The other guys struck me as a bit cagey – not Wheeler.  Also, the info that Wheeler is able to reveal, and that emerges from the questions they ask him, strikes me as very important: for instance, that so much routine information is being withheld in this case (the autopsy report, the bodycams, etc.)  It’s good to get this, or get confirmation of this, from such a knowledgeable source as Wheeler (a former DC cop).  He would certainly know what is routine and what isn’t.

There is a whole lot of shady stuff going on around DWS, the DNC and Clinton, with regard to information that should be public information, especially electronic information.  1 – DWS threatening the Capitol Hill Police Chief  if he doesn’t give her back the laptop that Awan stashed somewhere on Cap Hill – Awan, who was being investigated for data theft, hardware theft, and double-billing and was arrested by the FBI at Dulles airport, about to flee the country, on a bank fraud charge – a laptop which she first said is hers, and apparently now is saying is Awan’s.   2 – The DNC’s refusal to let the FBI examine their IT equipment after they alleged a “Russian hack.”  (I mean, WTF?)   3 – Clinton/Abedin stashing national security information all over the place, playing stupid about what is personal and what isn’t in Clinton’s emails, and so on.  And now this:  another information bottleneck on the most basic facts of the Seth Rich murder.

          65. Does anyone know the date of this recording?

Interesting to know whose recording came first, this one with Wheeler or the Sy Hersh recording?  On some key points, such as their description of the reliance of the DC Metropolitan Police on the IT expertise of the DC FBI Office, they sound uncannily similar.

Also at about the 13 minute mark here, Wheeler makes an important point that the autopsy report along with the Metro Police crime scene broadcast and the responding officer body camera footage has not been released.  That seems to surprise them all.  According to Wheeler, he seems to think Rich would have been conscious at the time the first officers responded, and they would have asked him who shot him or for a description.

recording, to a billionaire righty, he spills his guts and drops curses throughout.

he’s not known as a friend of the rich and right, so why the discrepancy

last thing i saw about him commenting on something related to this story he said “I live in the real world”

i found it interesting in the context

believe Hersh is on to a larger story

        41. We don't know if Butowsky made the recording – another possibility

is Malia Zimmerman who is an attractive TV journalist…which could explain the loose lips, but maybe not all the blue language.

Either way, he didn’t know he was being recorded. Given his circumspection in the Scahill interview I’d imagine he’s nuclear pissed for that recording being released. I’m surprised he hasn’t used a legal strategy to have it taken down.

Hersh’s record on being right is far above the garbage punits. Him saying that really should put some on notice. I just can’t see him pissing away a golden career over some thought of off the record talk. That he would do just that imo is something else.

Means he worries for himself now, ain’t that some shit?

to make it appear it’s someone’s voice.

Since at this point it’s all conjecture, what if via Awan’s laptop, for example, they know it’s going to come out that Seth was the leaker and they have no way now of stopping that and so they are desperately trying to provide cover for his murder?

Who saying it was a botched robbery would look more credible and as if he had a direct pipeline to this info than Hersh?

            Food for thought.

        39. Election interference by US intel, or Russian intel – which is worse?

Because that’s what we’re looking at with this scenario. After more than a year of US intel pushing the Russian interference narrative, will the public lose their mind over CIA/FBI/NSA rigging it?

Even if Hersh publishes the story, there will be those who STILL say, “but RUSSIA!” A whole year of non-stop propaganda…I’m not sure if that can be fixed.

      50. Whoa. "Russia hacked the election" narrative continues to crumble.

So the real issue surrounding Seth Rich — the one that has Sy Hersh apparently worked up — is that the American intelligence community may have been pushing the “Russia hacked the election” narrative for its own selfish purposes.

It doesn’t track. It never tracked. Russia didn’t “hack the election.” The emails, wherever they came from, basically just revealed that the DNC was in cahoots with the Clinton campaign to beat Sanders. Whatever happened, Trump doesn’t have the skill or the savvy to have engineered any of it himself, AND there’s no reason to think emails about Podesta’s favorite Italian foods and plans to undermine Bernie Sanders swung the election in any way.

Regardless of where Sy comes down in his (apparently still ongoing) investigation, there is a bill of goods being sold here. We’re not going to get rid of Trump by concluding he and Putin got together in a room and figured out a way to sneak an election victory by Hillary Clinton, because that just didn’t happen. Whether we ever find out what did actually happen remains to be seen.

        62. Seems like if Russia hacked the DNC, they would have blackmailed

Everyone thought HRC was going to win. Putin says he thought she would win. Those emails would be far more valuable as leverage than to simply leak them. Only a Bernie-aligned whistleblower, or someone with a beef against the DNC has the motive to leak.
