Liberals Beware: Lie Down With Dogs, Get Up With Fleas

The New York Times is currently engaged in one of its most ambitious projects: Removing a sitting president from office. In fact, Times columnist Nicolas Kristof even said as much in a recent article titled  “How Can We Get Rid of Trump?”

Frankly, it’s an idea that I find attractive, mainly because I think Trump’s views on immigration, the environment, human rights, civil liberties and deregulation are so uniformly horrible, they could destroy the country.   But the Times objections are different from my own. The reason the Times wants Trump removed is because Trump wants to normalize relations with Russia which threatens to undermine Washington’s effort to project US power deeper into Central Asia.

Trump’s decision to normalize relations with Moscow poses a direct threat to Washington’s broader imperial strategy to control China’s growth, topple Putin, spread military bases across Central Asia, implement trade agreements that maintain the dominant role of western-owned mega-corporations, and derail attempts by Russia and China to link the wealthy EU to Asia by expanding the web of pipeline corridors and high-speed rail that will draw the continents closer together creating the largest and most populous free trade zone the world has ever seen.

This is what the US foreign policy establishment and, by inclusion, the Times are trying to avoid at all cost. The economic integration of Asia and Europe must be blocked to preserve Washington’s hegemonic grip on world power. That’s the whole deal in a nutshell.

    1. Trump does a couple good things and the status quo goes beserk.

Shit-canning the TTP, that was a plus.  Better relations with Russia, that’s also a plus.  On the rare occasions that Trump does something right, liberals should support it.  There will be many more occasions that Trump won’t be doing the right thing.

      2. I thought the stuff further down about how Obama set Trump up

to be leaked to death was the best part. I’d been trying to figure out why Obama did that. The OP interprets it as part of the impeach now movement, but I think how he explained it works as a straight rocks-in-the-gears move, it sets the administration, which is already chaotic, at war with itself, or the deep state, or however you want to put it, and gives leakers plausible deniability.

      Very Obama-like.

I think that the people who want Trump out now are wrong, although I understand why they wrong, this needs to be allowed to sink in until the next elections, the voting public needs to take a good long look at what it has been electing to high office.

I’m feeling a little less fearful about what Trump might do and whom he might provoke, I think the dust is settling some, and people can see how it is with Trump, and there is going to be lots of resistance.

        5. Flynn was a much better choice

Than the guy Trump ended up using as Flynn’s substitute, McMaster, for the National Security Advisory position.

The Democratic Leadership is high fiving themselves over this “victory.” Doesn’t seem like much of a victory if we have a less capable person in such an important, life and death position… Yet the Dem Leadership is not that concerned abut the welfare of the citizens, just their little power trips.

          8. The Democratic Leaderships is a bunch of morons.

Based on all the evidence available, the results of their “work” and what they have to say about them, I see no other possible conclusion.

          9. To be serious, Flynn looked worse to me.

McMaster has pretention to seriousness, Flynn was writing books with Ledeen and the like, grubbing for money in Turkey, and fraternizing with all sorts of religious nuts. It’s true he liked Russia, but not wanting war with Russia does not mark you off as particularly sharp.

Generally I divide them up, the military, into the ground troops (Army + Marines + a few of the others) and everybody else. And generally I expect the ground troops to be more prudent, because they are less insulated. And they still remember Custer.

            10. You may well have studied the situation more than I did.

And I like your statement about Custer.

    3. Intresting

Whitney makes a good case for caution in impeaching Trump too soon.  Plus, the Obama last minute action on allowing the 16 Intelligence agencies to no longer be accountable to the NSA is curious.

Has anyone ever made public who these 16 Intel Agencies are?   I’ve not seen anything.

btw:  I thought Paul Jay at “Real News Network” made a good point about this being a war between the Oligarchs here in the USA.  It’s posted somewhere on JPR today.

    It’s in Multimedia:

      4. I think not taking sides is essential.

I want them all to go down. Trump looks to have a fair shot at finishing the job of destuction that Bush the Lesser started. It’s not often they get into wars with themselves, it’s a big opportunity..

First you have to unseat them, then you have to make sure no more take their place, ever.

        7. Yes that is indeed essential.

And making sure that we don’t get shot in the face like before is important too.

      6. My spouse keeps saying that

KFC is one of those 16 Intel Agencies.   (Sometimes a spouse will just cluck cluck cluck along.)
