“The high abstention is very concerning,” says Isabelle Le Breton-Falézan, a lecturer in French political science at the Sorbonne University. “In 2017, Macron was seen as optimistic, a new promise, a disruptor. That’s not the case any more. This represents a rejection of both candidates and not a vote of support for Macron. His legitimacy might be questioned.”

One good thing about Le Pen and her right-wingers. They won’t blame the leftists for their loss, or accuse them of voting for Macron by not voting.

Folks might not notice that leading into the runoff, Macron only had 28%, LaPenn had 22% and the socialists had 21%. But to American corporate media, it was only the right wing party vs the ultra-right wing party.
