      Episode #98

According to Pulitzer Prize-winning science writer, Laurie Garrett, no vaccine will be available in October or any time soon.

If this virus isn’t brought under control soon, we’re lookinng at an endemic. COVID-19 will be a part of our lives FOREVER. I posted her web site link below.

      Great interview with Michael.

Hopefully medical science will come up with treatments to minimize the damage it does to human bodies.

considering we have no government trying to do something about this and a moronic President acting like it’s nothing more than an everyday flu.

Because of him, specifically, this thing is raging out of control. It’s almost too late to do something about it and that fucking idiot has no clue what to do. He ignores Dr. Fauci. He ignores scientists. He ignores FACTS. He ignores DATA. He ignores anything and everything pertaining to this virus because he doesn’t want to spend the money to fix it and would rather shovel that money to his corporate buddies. He doesn’t care who dies or how many die from this.

A science writer is not a scientist, so I will take her horrible pessimism as science fiction.

and is highly regarded in the science community.

I told Laurie Garrett that she might as well change her name to Cassandra. Everyone is calling her that anyway.

She and I were Zooming — that’s a verb now, right? — and she pulled out a 2017 book, “Warnings: Finding Cassandras to Stop Catastrophes.” It notes that Garrett, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, was prescient not only about the impact of H.I.V. but also about the emergence and global spread of more contagious pathogens.

“I’m a double Cassandra,” Garrett said.

She’s also prominently mentioned in a recent Vanity Fair article by David Ewing Duncan about “the Coronavirus Cassandras.”

Cassandra, of course, was the prophetess of Greek mythology who was doomed to issue unheeded warnings. What Garrett has been warning most direly about — in her 1994 best seller, “The Coming Plague,” and in subsequent books and speeches, including TED Talks — is a pandemic like the current one.

      Thanks for that reminder @gzeush

Looks like she has a BS in biology & started with graduate school (bacteriology & immunology) but never finished….but research work with world-class immunology professor (though more on the hardware end).  In the end, hers is an informed opinion like lots of others; I mistrust some of her professional/govt/personal ties however and never take anyone’s opinion as gospel (including mine when not too full of myself)

University of California, Santa Cruz, where she received a B.S. in biology in 1975.…graduate school in the Department of Bacteriology and Immunology at University of California, Berkeley…. research at Stanford University with Leonard Herzenberg…  During her PhD studies, Garrett started reporting on science news for radio station KPFA. The hobby soon became far more interesting than graduate school and she took a leave of absence to explore journalism. Garrett never completed her PhD. At KPFA Garrett worked in management, in news, and in radio documentary production…

In 2004, Garrett joined the Council on Foreign Relations as the Senior Fellow of the Global Health Program….

so I’ll continue to look down on Double Cassandra.   I’m going to lump her in with Guy McPherson, and they can argue about whether our coming extinction in 2026 will be from coronavirus or climate change.
