“I don’t think reparations for something that happened 150 years ago for whom none of us currently living are responsible is a good idea,” McConnell said.
By Amy Russo
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday dismissed the idea of modern-day reparations for slavery, arguing that civil rights legislation and former President Barack Obama’s election show they are unnecessary.
“I don’t think reparations for something that happened 150 years ago for whom none of us currently living are responsible is a good idea,” McConnell told reporters at a press conference.
The senator then listed the ways in which he felt America’s slave-holding past has been addressed already.
“We’ve tried to deal with our original sin of slavery by fighting a civil war, by passing landmark civil rights legislation. We’ve elected an African American president,” he said. “I think we’re always a work in progress in this country, but no one currently alive was responsible for that, and I don’t think we should be trying to figure out how to compensate for it.”

Okay then, how about 10 million dollars each, for every unarmed AA killed while dealing with police officers. How about a funding boost of 50 million each for every school where the racial mix ratio differs from the national racial ratio by more than the margin of error.
Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.

McConnell needs to put his turtle hat on and go hide under a rock. Is he really this f’ing stupid?
I will be a Bernie supporter FOREVER. This whole thing with Bernie and his people oriented policies were meant to be introduced in this day and age!! Many have tried and failed in the past. Succeeding was almost impossible. It's kind of a gimme in today's corrupt 2 party system that you have to work within. Just look how things have changed in the past 8 years from Bernie's policies. It was meant to be. Wait it out. Change will come. Thank you Bernie for all you've done. You are a truly amazing person.

How about if Kentuckians finally get WOKE and decide you, Mitch, are no longer necessary.

I’ll translate what the turtle man is really saying: I am from Kentucky where we don’t like black people. So I’m not going to do diddly squat.

As an undisputed representative of the 1%, I would expect no less from Mitch. And since he is riding on the Trump Train he has to appeal to their white base by playing to and stoking their sense of grievance.
The Big Lie: "Make the lie big, Make it simple, Keep saying it, And eventually they will believe it." AH.
"Arguments must therefore be crude, clear and forcible, and appeal to emotions and instincts, not the intellect." JG
National issues (slavery/racism, income inequality, pandemics and pathetic health care, weak unions) are not solved with more states' rights. Global problems (climate change, migration, trade, war, pandemics) are not solved with more nationalism.

A better idea is to enforce true equality for everyone, regardless of nationality, skin color, sexual orientation, gender, income if any, location of home or lack of same… That would go much farther in the long run than paying what far too many in this country worship, money.
Paying out money would be just a one time bump in the downward spiral of our economy, which is circling the drain for for more and more people.
Besides why are we still discriminating against the Native Americans? The United States committed wholesale genocide against them, wiping out entire tribes.
If the dependents of slaves, if they can prove such, get Reparation (DNA tests?), then the surviving Native American deserves the same. The remnants of those people are still here, unlike the former slaves.
They whole idea of who gets or doesn’t get Reparations, will get very, very hairy, very, very fast.
We are an arrogant species, believing our fantasy based "facts" are better than the other person's fake facts.
If you are wrong, it will be because you are not cynical enough.
Both major political parties are special interest groups enabling each other for power and money, at the expense of the people they no longer properly serve…
