Fourth of July weekend saw a rise gun violence – with more than 180 people killed and 516 injured in shootings across the U.S., according to data from Gun Violence Archive.

In the first five days of July, there were a whopping 20 mass shootings, bringing 2021’s total to 336. May saw 72 mass shootings and June saw 76, according to the archive.

“The 14 mass shootings over this past holiday weekend (Friday to Sunday) are the most of any weekend in 2021,” the organization said in a tweet.

In Chicago, where police said gun violence is increasing this year, at least 82 people were shot – 14 fatally – over the holiday weekend, CBS Chicago reports. The number of shootings on Fourth of July weekend is up from 2019, when 68 people were shot, and 2020, when nearly 80 people were shot.

Too bad we can’t do anything about it.

I would like to remind you that U.S. health insurance companies do not contribute anything to health care. They are only a PARASITIC middle man receiving an undeserved cut of "FREE MONEY".

People can do stupid things with fireworks. They can burn their house down, blow up their own hands, even bomb themselves right in the gut while sitting in a hot tub, apparently.

So even though this is a problem one day out of the year, enough mortals realized that putting explosives in the hands of morons might not be such a great idea. And so they banned them.

Should be that easy with guns…. which cause more damage than fireworks, 365 days a year. One of the few things good about the Great COVID Lockdown of 2020 is that it put a temporary hold on this gun insanity for a few months.

Cause is still to be determined, but it was on the 4th.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Survivors of the deadly apartment fire in Northeast Portland say they are looking for answers as they process what happened and try to figure out their next steps.

While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, right now we know two people died and four others suffered injuries. Many of the survivors got out by jumping out of windows while the fire quickly spread on Sunday morning.

A church was also burned on the Washington side:

BATTLE GROUND, Wash. – Fireworks are likely to blame for a fire burning at the old Cherry Grove Church in Battle Ground, Washington on Monday, Clark-Cowlitz Fire & Rescue said.

The fire was reported early Monday morning at the church along Northeast 92nd Avenue.

Based on surveillance video from neighbors, fire investigators say someone drove up to the church and tossed “possible flaming material” at the church before speeding away.

even bomb themselves right in the gut while sitting in a hot tub

That’s not what happened. He was trying to get out of the hot tub after someone else set off the fireworks and he got hit.

Either way it was pretty damned stupid though.

It shows our support for our 2nd Amendment freedoms when we shoot each other and resist the urge to implement gun control. It shows we’re not afraid to die for our Constitution. It shows we’re tough, not a bunch of snowflake pansies who just want to go on living. Hooray for us!

will be woefully neglected anyway, so why care?

I keep trying to care and instead keep thinking, that’s Murdakkkastan for ya: they had it a-comin’.

If everybody had a gun, gun violence would be a thing of the past, Right? right? right…?
That is basically what they are trying to tell us, to stop any kind of sensible gun regulations.
If they can ban pop bottle rockets, as too dangerous, why not bullets and the guns that fire them?

I think I heard that from some guy who parted the Red Sea in a movie once.

“There’s a new spirit abroad in the land. The old days of ‘grab and greed’ are on their way out. We’re beginning to think of what we owe the other fellow, not just what we’re compelled to give him. The time’s coming… when we shan’t be able to fill our bellies in comfort while others go hungry, sleep in warm beds while others shiver in the cold.... And God willing, we’ll live to see that day…” Basil Rathbone,"Sherlock Holmes Faces Death" (Universal 1943)
