As @ohiobarbarian will tell you, it was great weather this weekend in OH and PA (I loved his latest Life in the Twilight Zone). Saturday, I celebrated a birthday, Sunday (almost over), I took down my garden and made things look pretty today after doing a shit ton of things last week. Leading into this weekend, I wanted to shout into he rooftops and make @Pam2’s rebirth of trivia (but I did not, due that shit ton of stuff). Sorry Pam2. However, I did find Manny Goldstein and talked to Mary…

I found Manny just as I got ahold of Mary to call me back. They used to run JPR before SFFH and LoE. I had a long talk with Mary just as the time of discovering Manny’s twitter handle, which is MannyHappyReturns, believe it or not. He remembered me, but there are so many questions and tasks to unfold the reason JPR has no acting administrator… just loyal moderators.  Here’s what Manny said upon me asking if it was HE who jumped in to bring JPR back to life.

A little bit complex. I checked to see who owns the domain name “jackpineradicals.com” – without control of that domain name, or without the name/password of a site admin account with the proper rights, nothing can really be changed. But whoever owns the domain name made their identity hidden. 🙁 Looks like someone paid to renew it in July, and it’s paid for through August of next year. So unless someone fesses up to owning it, and doesn’t renew it next August,

I don’t know what can be done. If they don’t renew next year, someone can buy it, probably in September.

If someone paid for it in July, then someone (probably on JPR) controls it. Any chance that LoE got an email from the registrar (Namecheap.com) and just paid it? If so, she might be able to get control of it.
I have done a few things after Mary convinced me that should I ever develop a skill set, I might be able to jump in and administrate. But, without the level of access I need, I’m fucked for now. At LEAST someone (and you know who you are, goddamnit) has decided to keep it going. According to Mary, and especially after the stuff I was reading from SFFH in his posting here), this can be done. Deadpool is not talking, and that’s gonna remain another mystery. Why the hell would anyone who COULD allow me the right access to JPR so that other people could moderate be MIA?
Well, that will have to wait a while for a proper answer.

Welcome to JPR and We’ll keep the Lights on For ya!

Okay. Will the mystery light turner-oner please stand up?

Your assessment that LoE just dropped a check in the mail without any thought whatsoever, after everything was shut off, then back on just befuddles me beyond befuddlement. I’ve never heard anything like this happen before. So it is truly strange. Was anyone able to get a hold of LoE? I really think she is the mystery here because jackpineradicals LLC is in her name. At least that’s what my research says.  I’m sending you a PM because I have some questions.

I’ll go read my PM now, which is bass ackwards in how I do things in the morning, but I’ve been leaving her messages for quite a while.

Thanks, @mrmickeysmom for doing all of the hard work to clarify what is going on. Even though it still remains a mystery.

All of this is intriguing. And the sudden disappearance of some is beyond bizarro. New people without names listed or approved is really weird.

Have not posted as much because I am spread out all over but will try to make more of an effort to check-in.  This whole thing sort of creeps me out. Lol.

@glinda when I read from your post-

All of this is intriguing. And the sudden disappearance of some is beyond bizarro. New people without names listed or approved is really weird.

Life has distracted me from being able to tell if there are low posts and new people at JPR. Is that what you mean, or was it something else I can’t remember?

Hell, no... I'm not giving up...

higher member numbers are noted by joe yet no newbies are listed anywhere. And not hearing back from trying to contact people to find out if anything is strange. Or maybe not. I think it is all strange. But I am also grateful for it being up and running yet not knowing WHO is running it gives me a slight pause.

Fortunately, I am so busy trying to figure out our life here at our home and other sites that it limits how much time I can spend anywhere. A blessing and a curse.

Also just apologizing for not contributing more.

I suppose someone or someones could buy the domain name, and maybe I could help depending on how much it costs, but would that give us the keys to the kingdom? I don’t know how this stuff works. Does anyone here?

It doesn’t give any access to the internals of the web site itself, though – that’s managed by those who set up the web site.

It’s also a common practice today to have transfer of the domain name prohibited, and to hide the owners – as it too often the case today, domain name theft and unauthorized transfer has become a business.

@jbnw  So, this is why I am trying to be transparent in calling out whoever is likely to follow this thread.

We can only know so much, and what we DO know is that someone paid up for a year. If that someone was LoE, she may have understood what the bill was, OR some lawyer during probate procedures designated certain bills for domaine name to be paid up. That’s the best I can come up with.

            I have a domain name, just ‘cuz, and it’s about $5 a year – as it’s just a name.

The cost of maintaining and hosting a web site is where the real cost is, especially in fixing a broken site, as JPR was.

For that, I thank whatever web developer fixed JPR, and those who are paying for hosting.

Anonymous or otherwise, my (and I suspect our!) sincere thanks!

It keeps us appraised of how fragile our connectivity is.  Wish I had the skills – but they’re in the negatives on the ‘software (don’t even know if that’s the right word?? to describe and capture the challenges)’ front(s)….

      Curioser and curioser though.

Good to know Manny is still around.

Still though, all very frustrating. If I’m not mistaken, our member count continues to tick upward. I would have thought that new members would have to be approved by an administrator, but maybe I’m wrong. On a side note, I thought it was odd that after being fairly stable at around 600 members for a long time, that the member count started to rise, with no new names posting, for about the last year while SFFH was still around. I never inquired about it though.

And then a software update got pushed and it fixed a showstopper error that this site was having?
