(The Hill) Nearly 900 workers at a Tyson Food plant in Indiana have reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.

The coronavirus infected 890 of the 2,200 people at the plant located in Logansport, Ind., local station WISH TV reported Wednesday.

The updated number is more than 700 additional confirmed cases at the plant than the Cass County Health Department reported last week, according to the Indianapolis Star.

Tyson announced last week that the company would voluntarily close its facility and work with county officials on a plan to reopen.

Horrible! And get Pence back to his home state. Can’t fix Indiana, can’t fix America.

Losing a third of your workforce can’t be good for getting things done. They probably think they can just throw more poor bodies onto the line.

And now, all those workers that do become sick, will be getting treatment on the taxpayer’s dime, while the owners who control the work environment pay nothing.

This is (or maybe I should say may be) way more serious than the number of cases.

I’m not sure how these plants work @ohiobarbarian , so you may think I’m crazy. I ASSUME workers wear masks of some sort while on the lines if not everywhere. I ASSUME they wear those cheap plastic gloves as well.

So where is the infection point???? The toilets and washrooms or locker rooms???

Are the plant owners/operators so stupid that they don’t sterilize the compression points of employee occupancy?? You know, locker rooms and bathrooms and those places, including lunch rooms…..

Are the workers so stupid that they disregard all self protection?? I’d make for fuck sure that I had a mask and gloves on ALL THE TIME while in the plant. Except when I peed, but I’d figure out a way to do that without compromising my ability to spread this shit. No showers. No locker room except if required for removal of street clothes. That could give me a problem, but I’d for sure figure out something to avoid contagious practices there.

Or, can this shit be way more dangerous than we’re being lead to believe?

@sffh There were many reports that meat processing plants were working without protective gear–no masks–standing shoulder to shoulder on a very dangerous and literally bloody assembly line. There were definitely employees who were told to report to work even though they were sick or get fired.

I’m not worried about the virus being ingested–cooking will kill it–but the wrapping and the handling and transportation and yeah, ideal conditions for the contagion to spread.

And just where were the workers supposed to get all this PPE? I don’t know. Where do they get it when they’re living in Bumfuck, Indiana? Why are they responsible for that? The entire responsibility rests on the employer for not taking necessary safety measures and corrupt governments for allowing them to get away with it.

        IMO.
