New Democratic Coalition House Member Rep. Henry Cellar, of Texas, helping GOP

Fundraise against his Democratic Party Colleague.

    https://www.texastribune.org/2018/09/13/mj-hegar-fires-back-henry-cuellar-helping-her-gop-opponent-fundraise/

Congressional candidate MJ Hegar fired back Thursday at U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, a fellow Democrat, for participating in a fundraiser earlier this week for her opponent, Republican U.S. Rep. John Carter of Round Rock.

“I think that Congressman Cuellar does a good job of working across the aisle and working in a bipartisan way,” she said in an interview with the Texas Tribune’s Evan Smith. “I think that raising money for somebody who doesn’t represent your values … that’s different. That actually is going against the values that you’re trying to fight for.”

On Tuesday, reports surfaced that Cuellar participated in a fundraiser for Carter in San Antonio. Cuellar released a statement later in the day downplaying the significance of the action, arguing that he frequently attends events with members who visit his district and added that “friendship is more powerful than partisanship.” more at site link

Rep. Cellar is actually a Conservative running in the Democratic Party.

        2. This year many minorites including women are registering to vote in Texas.

Gubernatorial Democratic Candidate Lupe Valdez is doing quite well against good ol’ boy R-Greg Abbott present Governor of TX.

        let him run as one.

        8. He is a republican occupying a seat gerrymandered for democrats

He just says he is a democrat to get elected. He needs to be targeted in the primary and removed.

      3. Correction it's the "New Democrat Coalition" not Democratic.

A very telling difference.   They are proud of their bi-partisanship.  I think their Republican friends gave them the name and they are too foolish to get it.

        5. I need help with my Dyslexia a lot. Since you decided to use the main board in-

stead of Private Message, then I will call it as corrected.

          11. I didn't mean it to be like I am correcting you. I think the difference is

ironic for them to use a name Repubs use as a pejorative, i.e., Democrat vs Democratic.  I wanted to call attention to it for those that have yet to find it.  My HoR Rep is co-chair or something.

            12. I understand. There is a mark on the post so if I corrected it, the replies

would not make since. So I considered it corrected and still do. No problem. It is ok to tell me in a reply that you have sent me a PM; and a PM next time would be fine. Word blindness is hard on society as a whole. Society dropped phonics about 35 years ago to move to a whole language approach. Bad decision. Genetically, 40% of the population needs a multisensory learning approach to reading, writing and spelling. 12% t0 20% of a population, have disabilities in the range of moderated to severe specific disorders. If you and I would have just left the OP alone, it would gone down to page 2 in no time at all. Or if you had sent me a PM to request a correction; that would have been the best outcome. Please feel free to send a PM to help me with my mild dyslexia. I have a lot to learn in life, still.

              14. Again you are missing my point. I wasn't so much as correcting you as

pointing out to others that may not have noticed that the nitwit “New Democrats” named their coalition a name that Republicans probably came up with mocking the Democratic Party.  “Democrat Party” is spouted by Republicans as a pejorative.

                15. The "New Dems" may also have chosen the name to distinguish themselves

from the “tired, old” FDR New Deal, Truman Fair Deal, JFK New Frontier, and LBJ Great Society.  They prefer identity politics and mythical “firewalls” (the black firewall in the Old Confederacy during the 2016 primaries didn’t do squat for Shrillary in the GE) to coming up with proposed solutions for the myriad problems overwhelming working and middle class Americans.

So in 2016, along comes Bernie Sanders who wants to resurrect a winning New Deal coalition of working and middle class Americans, never mind the big money special interests.  After all, money doesn’t vote, people vote.

      7. Membership in the New Democrat Coalition is an automatic disqualifier for me.

I don’t care how progressive the campaign blather and bullshit is.

Not much difference between this and Americans for Prosperity (of the Kochs).

      • *Obligatory disclaimer - when I say "Democratic Party" I mean the DNC - the Clintons and the un-elected people and the consultants and the lobbyists and the corporations who actually run things.  The people who work and vote and are registered as "D" are no more the actual party than Trekkies are Star Trek.   Extra credit - the Democratic Party gets to actually fuck up your life. When you vote for it.
You think the only reason that people won't vote for a warmongering Third Way fracking-enabling cluster bomb throwing H-1B increasing lying pandering corporate and Wall Street shill who says she has no problem putting abortion rights on the table is because we are mad about Bernie?  Um, nope.

        13. Note that the alphabetical list of NDC members includes Rep.

“Beto O’Rourke (TX-16),” who is labeled “progressive” in some press reports.  (AZ’s Kyrsten Sinema, DWS, and HI’s Colleen Hanabusa are also NDC members).

          17. Oh, yes, I have noted that very thing in a Beto thread.

I do not live in Texas, so my opinion is moot – but IMO, New Democrat Coalition politicians are slippery liars who regularly aid and abet the GOP in their state and in DC. Here in Florida, Debbie Wassermann-Schultz comes to mind – and so I would consider that the GOP can generally restrain Cruz, but O’Rourke is a closet DINO and strengthens the GOP in office. So tough choice. I will not vote for Bill Nelson here in Florida – New Democrat Coalition emeritus. Don’t think he can win anyway. He was never really going to help the Okeechobee algae problem, IMO, just promises. That algae is local; the red tide comes from elsewhere in the Gulf. If the Democrats’ Shapiro wins, he will be a natural for the NDC – ACA is fine, people just need affordable access! and of course money for Israel is his biggest and most passionately expressed issue. The DNC LOVES him. I think Gillum is a 50-50 chance to go NDC. Governors are welcome there. Remains to be seen.

And yeah, Beto O’Rourke belongs to the New Democrat Coalition, which is advised by the Third Way and boasts of working across the aisle and conservative fiscal policy. The newest scare is that the GOP will slash safety netsd after the elections. The NDC will help them. Nancy’n’Chuck will consider that nothing but campaign fodder and obeisance to big donors. That is what drives the votes in Congress for the most part, IMO. Who can vote for what in order to get some campaign blather cred whilst the whips make sure nothing progressive actually passes. It is all campaign fodder for them.

        19. Agree. NDC is a disqualifier for me as well.

Used to call themselves DLC which in my district we called “Dumbasses for the Leisure Class”.  They called themselves Democratic Leadership Council whose purpose when they formed ‘themselves’ (along with their big money owners) in the mid 80’s was to take the Dem Party on a big time far right turn which to me they did.  From and Lieberman and Gephardt come to mind as ‘founders’, there are several more, those are the assholes I remember.  Then along came the slimiest of all the Clintons…..

Your posts here are always worth a read for me djean. I learn from them which to me is also always good.

          20. Here's some background on the Dem "Leadership" Council from Wikipedia:

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Leadership_Council

Leadership in the DLC’s title is in quotes since rank-and-file Dems can thank the DLC, Third Way, and New Dems — as well as Slick Willie, Obama, and Shrillary — for the sad state of Democratic officeholders across the U.S. in the last 10-12 years.

2009-2017 were “good” years for Obama, but disastrous for Dems in Congress, state governorships and legislatures, and local offices.  And the establishment keeps trumpeting that Obama was “one of our greatest presidents” — maybe in comparison to Der Donald — but his “legacy” stinks, including his problematic accomplishment half-measure Obamacare.

The elite British Special Air Services or SAS has a motto, “Who dares wins.”  Obama didn’t even come close.

        16. But if you live in Texas it should be a given what to expect.

I’m so glad I don’t live in Texas. Used to work in Houston back in 2001 and the bible thumping idiots are everywhere.

          18. Beto O'Rourke belongs to the Third Way-advised New Democrat Coalition.

So Texas may still have the crap end of the stick with a better-looking and -talking crap end.
