The Trump administration announced Monday that it is moving ahead with one of its most aggressive steps to restrict legal immigration, denying green cards to many immigrants who use Medicaid, food stamps, housing vouchers or other forms of public assistance.

Federal law already requires those seeking green cards and legal status to prove they will not be a burden to the U.S. – a “public charge” -but the new rules detail a broader range of programs that could disqualify them.

Much of President Donald Trump’s effort to crack down on illegal immigration has been in the spotlight, but this rule change targets people who entered the United States legally and are seeking permanent status. It’s part of a push to move the U.S. to a system that focuses on immigrants’ skills instead of emphasizing the reunification of families.

I was not aware that immigrants qualified for food stamps. For one thing they are afraid to apply since much of the applications involves personal data. Second they would have to have documents to show the social worker where they work, how much they make on the job, where they live and how much they pay for rent. Their boss and landlord would all be contacted for verification.  All of that could be used against them by ICE. I suspect tRump thinks that legal immigrants who qualify because of the low pay on the job are the same thing as illegal immigrants. Stupid.

One more step on the road to becoming a sh!thole country – or maybe just a$$hole country.

Next step – deny green card renewal or citizenship.  Permanent resident isn’t permanent – they have a duration.

Does this mean h1-b employers will need to pay a living wage? The Trump administration  surely doesn’t want that.

I’ve read the article, and I still can’t figure out which immigrants with green cards this law is targeted at.

Yeah, ’cause you know, nobody needs any help when they’re a refugee or a new arrival in a foreign country.

This goddamn xenophobic bullshit has to stop.  I know refugees from Cambodia, Laos, and Burma and they are damn good, hardworking folks.  They are way more fucking AMERICAN that that fat coont in the White House.

We aren’t turning into a shithole country.  We’re turning into a country of shitheads that elected a shitheaded racist xenophobe in 2016.
