Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is ripping her fellow Democrats for failing to take up her proposed special climate change committee called the Green New Deal because it was deemed “too controversial.”
Ocasio-Cortez in a Twitter thread Monday blamed House leadership for rejecting the idea behind the Green New Deal, which aimed to create a plan to get the country on a 100 percent renewable energy electric grid.
“A few weeks ago, I joined youth activists in a specific demand for a Green New Deal Committee. It had 3 simple elements: 1. No fossil fuel money on climate cmte 2. Offer solutions for impacted communities 3. Draft sample #GreenNewDeal All 3 were rejected as “too controversial,” she tweeted.
Ocasio-Cortez did not respond to tweets asking her to name the person who labeled the committee controversial.

I would like to remind you that U.S. health insurance companies do not contribute anything to health care. They are only a PARASITIC middle man receiving an undeserved cut of "FREE MONEY".

of a Green New Deal:
1. The Money Train: Nancy cannot reject the $ from the hands that feeds her party (Oil Industry).
2. Without Oily influence, such a committee may discover how corrupted is Nancy’s entire platform and why it is so slow to change (especially compared to the rate of planet destruction).
3. AOC cannot be seen as the leader that she is. (Nancy’s power would crumble quickly).

economists, people who can crunch numbers to estimate the cost of what she’s proposing? Did she have any persuasive data to show that her idea is more than spitballing? Hard to believe she’s had time to learn her stuff and amass backing in the brief time since her election.
Or did she just say, “I want renewable energy in ten years. I’ve done no legwork and have no idea of the cost or feasibility. But based on zero background info, I come before Washington with no persuasive arguments and demand we form a committee.” And then, after rejection, “Waaah! My colleagues who wanted specifics or better persuasion are all bad people.”
(Trump, too, has constantly blamed his colleagues for his own failures to deliver his wall, his Muslim Ban, etc. His base eats it up. So I’m familiar with the blame-the-colleagues thing.).
She should NOT squander her clout too early. If she can present her ideas with smarts and science she’ll get a lot farther.

Your reply sounds like a typical knee-jerk response from the Fossil Fuel Industry.

The scientists have spoken through several reputable reports in the last several months. Which economists? The corporatists? Or the lessons learned in history – ie: the way FDR financed the first New Deal?

You can’t expect her to single-handedly solve all theses problems before forming a committee to solve these problems. You’re expecting too much of someone who hasn’t even been sworn in yet.

You seem to willfully miss the point of a committee. A committee is formed to explore and answer the very questions you bring up.

AOC was not demanding climate change be fixed in ten years. She was asking for a committee to make suggestions. But the folks who own the Democratic party want none of that. One of the reasons I left.

applause from the known DNC cheerleaders over there. At least there was criticism; I’ve gotta give them that.
