• Update on weirdness

Update on site issues: (1. replies now need a title *and* something in the message box, 2. certain links are causing strange pop-ups on Apple devices, and 3. Some folks can't type anything into the text box.) Basically, a series of unfortunate events set us back on testing. We'll get to it as soon as we can, and hopefully things can get fixed by this weekend if not before.  More info: https://jackpineradicals.com/boards/topic/site-problems-more-info/

Omaha wind chills in the -30's, accidents all over town, etc

We have been here 10 years. We had our first pipe freeze. It has been colder here. It was the wind chill that did it.

2 in critical condition after wreck at I-480, 10th Street ramp; Omaha marks coldest day since early 2014
By Kevin Cole / World-Herald staff writer Updated 44 min ago

Law enforcement agencies were kept busy covering vehicle crashes Sunday morning due to slick roads in the subzero temperatures.
Two people were taken to the Creighton University Medical Center in critical condition after a two-vehicle wreck at the top of the Interstate 480 and 10th Street entrance ramp. The crash occurred about 7:30 a.m., according to a 911 dispatcher.
An Omaha police cruiser blocked the ramp, preventing eastbound travel while the crash was investigated. Officers called for sand and salt trucks to treat the roadway before reopening the Interstate.

The ramp remained closed at 9:45 a.m.

    1. We are cold up here in NE MN also. Fortunately I live in a rural area and not

many out today. Have family living down in your area. Hope they stay home if they can.

    2. "-30's", aka, outer space dropping down for a visit

That’s beyond cold, that’s the absence of warmth. :brrr:

    3. Ja, makes me glad I kept my artic expedition parka…I'm good to -40F

    except for my hands.

I never had a cold-intolerance event like the one I experienced this morning.   Wearing a good pair of thinsulate gloves just 15 minutes into clearing snow it felt like someone had hit every fingertip with a hammer.   Hard.

I am now on the lookout for electric mitten shells with heating wires that go to the finger tip.

Grant us the vision to see what must be changed and save us from making it even worse.

    4. Frozen pipes suck

I’ve had that happen before as well.  When I was a kid I remember my Mother running the water just a trickle so the pipes would not freeze.  We’ve had many accidents here too (Missouri).

    Stay safe.

    5. I'm in MA. Yesterday, 1 degree,( 57 in my kitchen),minus 20 wind chill. Coming:

More nasty weather due, below freezing, severe wind chill.. We New Englanders with old houses are not equipped to deal with this severe cold. Furnace(oil) chugging along but can’t keep up, out come the oil filled radiators near the rooms w/pipes Up goes the electric bill. I have been in this same house for 47 years(don’t laugh), and, except for last year, have never had a pipe problem.

Please don’t tell me…anyone…that there is no such thing as climate change. The extremes are off the chart.
