One of our own lost her sister yesterday.

@areawoman, admin extraordinaire, animal lover, witty, intelligent and all around beautiful person, lost her sister yesterday.

This was a sudden loss. Mary Gerba, areawoman’s older sister, died, suddenly, in her home yesterday morning.

Mary and her family have suffered great loss over the years. They lost their home to hurricane Sandy. Then, suddenly, just four years ago, she lost her husband, father of her children.

Now, this family has lost their mother, sister, aunt and friend

Mary’s children are in their 20s and are unable to pay for all the expenses to properly say goodbye to their mother. There is no life insurance.

Areawoman has been moderating JackpineRadicals since day one. She may not post much but she’s always watching over us. She’s hard working and one of the funniest, kindest people I know. I’m proud to call her friend.

Friends of the family have started a gofundme to help pay for funeral and cremation expenses. If you are able, please send what you can to help.

Thank you so much for any help you can give.

Our deepest sympathies on your heartbreaking loss, areawoman. You are loved and appreciated.

Anyone who wants to donate but can’t use gofundme for whatever reason, you can use the donate to the site and send me a pm. I will send it directly to areawoman

Edited to add areawoman’s tribute to her sister, Mary

You're looking pretty buggy to me. Carry on please, your windshield is coming.

      21. I went through this same expense problem when my wife died

The treatments that failed to cure her (well insured at the time I might add), claimed all our savings, 401k, maxed all my credit cards and although at the time I was still able to work and was employed, I was of health necessity having to work fewer hours and was deeply in debt.

I very much respect areawoman and although I admit I do not know her very well, I have to say that I find the posts I have read from her to match your description of her being one of the kindest and funniest people here, I have also seen first hand how she looks over us and looks out for us.

I have no money whatsoever, but as I recall she is looking at at least $7,000 or more just for cremation, a short wake service attendance, and a plastic box, in fact I suspect the costs have risen sharply since I faced the unfortunate task, a task performed when one is weak as well as mentally and emotionally drained due to the loss.

I will see what I can do to acquire something to contribute, I still have a few tools of value I no longer use that might fetch something.

If nothing else, I will at least try, I remember well how hard it was  for me to cover the same expenses, all during a time when money is an unneeded distraction from grief and in this case the comforting of her sister’s children.

I only wish I could do something, anything, to reduce the grief that will always linger, but is likely overwhelming currently if the dull shock has worn off yet, which it likely already has.

We must dissent from a nation that has buried its head in the sand, waiting in vain for the needs of its poor, its elderly, and its sick to disappear and just blow away. We must dissent from a government that has left its young without jobs, education or hope. We must dissent from the poverty of vision and the absence of moral leadership. We must dissent because America can do better, because America has no choice but to do better.” Thurgood Marshall

They’re doing well with the drive. They’re nearly at $3000 and it’s just the first day.

I know your very heartfelt condolences are more than enough. Reaching out like this means so much.
