What? The military tried to cover up its inability to control the situation in Afghanistan? They were supposed to promote western values and norms in a society where western values and norms are regarded as the essence of evil, and they didn’t succeed. One problem with our military is that the leadership believes it can do anything. Remember that general Trump appointed to head up the vaccine distribution effort? Gustave Perna is his name. He got on TV and announced that he was going to do it the Army way, kick ass and take names, not accept excuses from a bunch of civilian slackers, blah, blah, blah. Gallons of ego oozed out of the TV screen as he spoke. He failed miserably, of course. Our military is pretty good at bombing the snot out of smaller defenseless nations, but that’s about it. If they refuse to admit their limitations, we should. Stop sending them off to turn other countries into little copies of the United States. They’re just going to lie about it when we ask them how it’s going. Then they whine about being betrayed by political leaders. “All our sacrifices were for nothing! Boo-hoo!”

Oh well. I’m sure they’ll forget all about it when the next shiny new war comes along.

I think we may have pretty much exhausted our options for “shiny new” wars…

I’ve no doubt that our MIC profiteers will soon start a new war, but I fear it will be far from shiny. 😞

I cannot believe anyone at all could possibly be shocked.

Otherwise, known as, “The Afghanistan Papers A secret history of the war”

LINK–WashingtonPost, At War with the Truth

It was a damning piece written with supporting documentation. Because this article was published for the purpose of black-mailing the U.S. Federal into giving Amazon (Bezos) a C.I.A. data services contract, the news cycle quickly came and went. The people who were paying attention knew the Afghan War was supported by lies from the U.S. Government. So any supposed expert who is supposedly saying they are surprised by today’s events now is either  a lair, uninformed, or just an idiot. They can have their choice of one to all three if they want.

Where?  Every time I’ve been out of the country, it’s been easy to tell.  The metric system is in common use; weather forecasts are given in Celsius; climate change is acknowledged as happening;  TVs in sports bars have futbol games on; nobody rants on and on about how many guns they have and how they do all their own reloading; everybody knows that when they get sick, they can go to a public clinic and get treated for little to no cost.

There may be a few copies of the United States out there —  American Samoa?  Guam?  Right Wingistan?–  but fortunately not very many.  The good features of the United States are written down on some historical documents, but they aren’t practiced within its borders.  This country is a failed experiment — failed not because it adopted bad principles, but because it gave license to bad greedy people to run it into the ground.

      I fully agree.

Now I am no economics  wonk but if I had to put my finger on the source of the problem it would have to be something called capitalism.

At least in other countries  where capitalism  is used, the citizens and their respective governments control their capitalism.

      The U.S.A. does not.

      just my opinion

Capitalism is the root of all evil.

It all goes back to early American literature: the Horatio Algier myth: pull yourself up by your bootstraps, despite the fact you can’t afford BOOTS! We like our fellow Murkkkastanians to have gumption, don’cha’know?

A SMALL place, providing people with non-essential fashionable items. It doesn’t do a very good job providing all the people with the education, health care, transportation and utilities they need, but it can turn some people’s wants for stylish shoes, craft beers, liposuction and anything that can be called a ‘collectible’ into a lucrative business.
Were it limited to these areas, I might speak up for it.
