(Cleveland Scene) Fully 50% of likely Democratic voters in Ohio’s District 11 Congressional election support Nina Turner, a new poll has found. The poll clarifies Turner’s frontrunner status two months before the Aug. 3 special election for the seat formerly occupied by Marcia Fudge.

Shontel Brown, the Chair of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party, trailed far behind in the poll, with 15% of likely voters saying they would support her. No other candidate topped 4%, with 21% saying they were sill undecided.

For one thing, every current and former Democratic state senator from Cuyahoga County who endorsed anyone endorsed Turner. Guess they don’t care what SV thinks.

Speaking of which, if you are so inclined, and I know you are, @satan , check out the meltdown SV’s having over the news. Sure enough, they’re questioning the validity of the poll. They’re also ignorant idiots who mostly don’t live anywhere near here. Turner’s been immensely popular for many years around these parts, and her famous comment about voting for Biden being like eating half a bowl of shit instead of a full one was incredibly popular here and helped her campaign because it made her look independent and honest.

On that score, nothing has fundamentally changed with how people here see Nina Turner.

This district voted against Trump. It will vote for Nina Turner. This election is all over but for the cheering of many progressives and the wailing and gnashing of teeth by Fascist Democrats. Please do cry me a river, SV.

Who am I kidding? Of course, it’s believable. That place is as controlled by vested interests as EVER… fucking morons.

…..so if Turner is the best we can do I guess this very unlikeable candidate will garner our support. By necessity.

Well… yeah, isn’t that exactly what the Democratic party asked us to do in the General Elections of 2016 & 2020??

I know it’ll be a “mutilated victory” even if we get her in the WH ’25, but I like this feeling

Honestly, if I could give more, I would, but I try to share anything about Nina anywhere I can.

still won easily had she remained in the People’s Party.
I think switching to Dem did more harm than good.

…there was no way she could have run on the People’s Party ticket this year due to the onerous requirements Ohio has to get a third party candidate on the ballot. That’s what Turner says, and I have no reason not to believe her.

That said, I won’t be voting in the Democrat primary because, if I did, I’d be a Democrat in public voting records. It’s simply too personally revolting for me to be listed as a member of the same party Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi lead.

Now she could very well walk away with it with 50% +1

Did she actually make that half bowl of s**t comment?  Damn!

      Thanks OB

I think I’ve got ya beat by a few more years (for that fuck yeah feeling)-more like 2 or 3 years when Bernie was on a roll in the primaries.

That’s why I’m saying this election is already over.

This isn’t surprising to me at all, but I live here. Mrs. Barbarian said it would be a runaway as soon as Nina announced, and she’s right. She usually is. Most voters have never even heard of Shontel Brown, but they’ve all heard of Nina Turner and most like her.

      @ohiobarbarian

I was thinking that with this many people in the race you need 50% + to get over the threshold so there is not a runoff.

I thought that’s how it normally works.

There are no doubt dozens of variations between the 50 states. Ohio is at one extreme in this regard, having no runoff elections whatsoever. First past the post every damned time.

      as quoted from his f/b

I thought Nina Turner would be a different sort of candidate for Congress. I contacted her re the absence of foreign policy from her website at ninaturner dot com / issues and ended up with her campaign manager telling me on the phone that foreign policy was in their “internal platform,” that the public platform was what people in Ohio’s 11th district care about and are impacted by (as if Senator Turner believes that military spending doesn’t impact people in her district), and that Turner hasn’t been elected yet (as if campaign websites should be developed post-election), and that there just wasn’t space (as if the internet has applied a limit to websites). The campaign manager denied any other motivation and claimed that they might someday add foreign policy to their website. Sigh.

as one who didn’t fall for Obama in 2008, I have my doubts that anything will change.

Thank you. I share your skepticism. I may be wrong, but if I am it will be a pleasant surprise.

As opposed to several nasty ones I’ve had over the last few years.
