Pompeo ‘applauds’ Colombia’s violent response to peaceful protests
by Adriaan Alsema January 20, 2020

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo “applauded” Colombia’s President Ivan Duque‘s response to anti-government protests on Monday despite mass reports of human rights violations.

Pompeo made the controversial statement during a visit to the South American country where he will attend a regional anti-terrorism summit and meet with Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido.

During a joint press conference with Duque, Pompeo said “we applaud the way Colombia responded to the demonstrations, with professionalism, respect for human dignity and calling for national dialogue.”

    . . .

Authorities’ attempts to violently suppress the largely peaceful protests killed at least three people and injured hundreds.

Typical conservative. Government rights (national sovereignty), particularly of friends, is more important than human rights.

National problems (slavery/racism, income inequality, pathetic health care, weak unions) are not solved with more states' rights. Global problems (climate change, migration, trade, war) are not solved with more national sovereignty.

That’s the hard-heeled Fascist repression neocons like Pompeio and Bolton love.

And, of course, Pompeo is an evangelical Christian and an outspoken “man of faith.”

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Yep, a total fucking asshole and disgrace to the human race- just like that motherfucker Duque.  With someone so obviously a violent, corrupt, greedy and hateful piece of shit warmonger… it is hard to understand how a large number of people who call themselves Christian see him as such.

Okay, well, maybe not really.  Many of them are filled with the same poison he is.

How do you deal with a guy like Pompeo?  Assuming we lived in a more rational time and place – how can you even begin to show such a person the error of their ways?

Problem is… we’ve got millions a lot like him.  I dont know how they can reconcile their vicious hatreds, ignorance, judgments, bigotries and so on… with their supposedly “Christian” faith.

They may call themselves Christian, but they are about as far from Christ like as you can get.

So, assuming that long term we can help such people see the light… how?  Anyone have ideas?  I dont.  It is people like him that make me wonder if eventual ideological war 8s inevitable.  Hitler had to be stopped – so does the modern American right.

But how?  I hope it doesnt end up requiring a vast alliance of world powers to go to war with us.  If that happens, there won’t be much left.

Pompeo,Pence, and others like them give religion a bad name.

The closest thing to a religious martyr in the world today is Assange, who is being killed for the truth.
