In an outrageous act, the Democratic Party is threatening to pick a Speaker of the House who is even more conservative than Nancy Pelosi if the few progressives in Congress do not concede to the party establishment and endorse her.
The overwhelming majority of the opposition to Pelosi is coming from the right wing of the Democratic House caucus. Think about that. Congressional Democrats are so corporate that Nancy Pelosi is significantly left of center. The party gives us a choice between Pelosi and someone who is even more attached to Wall Street.
Faced with this threat, progressive Democrats like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Pramila Jayapal are giving in and endorsing Pelosi for Speaker. These are the kinds of no-win choices that the party forces progressives to make.
Endorsing everything that is wrong with the Democratic Party undermines your moral authority and grassroots support, which in turn makes elected progressives more dependent on the party machine. This is how Democrats have controlled and contained the progressive movement for decades. The party blocks most progressives with rigged primaries then forces the few who get elected to capitulate to its corporate agenda.

this is a likely scenario that will play out.
The momentum though is in favor of this happening.
Thanks to people like Bernie Sanders and AOC the American people are getting to see what a decent politician can look like.
Bernie always said he can’t do it without a massive effort by millions of Americans getting involved and this is still the case.

Nick Brana nails it. The establishment Democratic Party sets up the scenario that gives cover to “progressive” Dem politicians to endorse people like Pelosi and Cuomo and still have the credibility I guess to appear like a firebrand lefty in order to bring the left back into the fold.
We really got em on the run now!

Great. I wonder who the ‘more conservative’ threat might have been??

Yes, he really is worse than Pelosi. AOC and these new progressives in Congress will learn quickly that she and her ilk can’t be trusted, if they haven’t already.

The progressive have been and will be stonewalled at every turn. Still, they’re young, full of energy and, I think, know fully what they’re up against. I have faith in these guys, and expect more progressives to be elected, which will tilt the process in their favor.

Either way, it assured her election by forcing progressives to support her.

beyond fear and rhetoric they can truly ask their leaders to change. I donot see that happening in the next 100 years so we are stuck with Nancy
Never expect different result by following the previous steps

He’s implying that if AOC and the other progressives had stood their ground, they would have magically elected a Speaker who was to the left of four-fifths of the members of the House.
Brana’s quixotic effort has consumed progressives’ time and money without electing one single member of Congress who could help the progressive Democrats effect change. He is the LAST person who should be disparaging the progressives who actually did manage to replace more conservative members.

What the establishment has done was to create a much worse situation than Nancy Pelosi to threaten any one to their left.
Such a thing is untenable, and in some cases, I feel like they may have just let things be. Why must it be the conservative wing be more willing to burn things down?
In some cases, such as this, I am now somewhat inclined to let them lose their power, rather than keep this ever-speeding-up decay.

It sometimes gets to the point where the only alternative I see is a massive “Don’t vote” movement, to demonstrate how f’ing bankrupt the whole “reality show” government is.
Nobody wants any of this shisse but the top 10%.
