We should be more careful. Anything we say or do will be seized by the centrists and used to excuse their failures. Instead of “defund the police” we should call for comprehensive criminal justice reform. Yes, the police get too much money, but taking away their funding will not help the situation. Where they re devious, we have to be smart. Our enemies come just as much from within the Democratic Party as from the Republican Party. When it comes to opposing progressives, the two major parties are solidly united. See? They can work together!

They were going to demonize progressives, and refuse to do anything progressive – win or lose.  That’s like caring what SV’s opinion is – and that would be moronic and pathetic.    The centrists have their game plan, and, IMO, that was using progressives and political identity groups in order to get back in power – and then shit on them.  Once you have bent the knee, you are expendable.  They were always going to blame progressives and whoever else wanted them to actually do something for the people.  Devious and smart – how?  You really think that work from within thing is going to work?  No, it is not.  The party is a privately owned corporation and does not really stand for anything but money.  They are up front about that.

Progressives may have to stop running as Democrats. That would be disappointing because I love to see Democrats primaried by progressives.

voter information and such.  Or, like what has happened to Tim Canova – ballots are miscounted and/or just thrown out so there cannot be a recount when the polls are way diffferent than the results. And then – when it is celebratory to go from four members to eight members of a progressive group, and the progressive caucus is better, but only requires members voting with the caucus 75% of the time, and Pelosi and Schumer keep progressive legislation from even getting to the floor, and considering that the Buttigiegs and Harrisses are panting in the wings – I honestly do not think the party will ever change, they have no reason to, it is owned by the rich now.   IMO, if we are to “be patient” and whatever, I would rather use that time and effort outside of the Democratic Party.

It really is like expecting an abusive partner to be nicer if you just “act right”.  I have experience with this – the abusive partner is always watching for an excuse, will manufacture one if needed, and the only way to have a life is to leave.

…they will lob the same attacks no matter what we do or say. Right now many are claiming that “defund the police” turns people off and we won’t get what we want by using it. But I have to ask: When was the last time we had a national conversation that included discussing why we should dramatically cut police funds all over the country? Never, that’s when. Why are we having that conversation now? Because of BLM and “Defund the Police”.

Asking politely never got anyone’s attention. So-called “police reform” has rarely had any long lasting results. So what, we should just keep doing the same thing that hasn’t been working for 40 years now? No thanks.

I learned a long time ago that you never, ever appease bullies. We are beset by bullies on the far right (Republicans) and on the near right (Democrat neolibs). Best defense == good offense. Go for the throat (metaphorically speaking of course).
