by Common Dreams‘Not the Leadership This Moment Calls For’: Progressives Slam Pelosi for Pushing ‘Weak’ Climate Panel Over Green New Deal Committee
by Jake Johnson, staff writer
“The party of the resistance is recklessly taking the path of least resistance on climate and inequality.”
Following presumptive House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) official announcement on Friday that Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Fla.) will chair the new Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, progressives accused the Democratic leadership of moving ahead with a “weak” congressional panel instead of listening to grassroots demands for a more bold and visionary Green New Deal Select Committee.
Justice Democrats—an advocacy group that helped organize recent mobilizations in support of a Green New Deal—declared in a statement that the Democratic leadership appears dead-set on taking the “path of least resistance” when it comes to tackling the climate crisis.
“Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic Party leadership seem to be pushing forward a weak Select Committee that has no subpoena power, that allows participation from members of Congress who take donations from the fossil fuel industry, and that has no explicit goals regarding the mass economic mobilization needed to match the [United Nations’] recommendations on scale and timeline,” Justice Democrats spokesman Waleed Shahid said in a statement.

Speak publicly about the importance of combating climate change, then do nothing, or even thwart attempts at progress once they get some power. They do this on every issue.

and pressed extremely hard over the next two years. Her voting District constituents need to evaluate voting for someone else in 2020; someone who is aligned with their needs and not the resistant needs of corporations. I am hoping that District challengers-the Progressives that Bernie talked about-will start a collective quazi political campaign against her this January. She needs some quazi-punches after she hit Progressives on House Committee appointments. And New Democrats are once again taking Big Dirty Energy money now that the 2018 campaign season has ended.

don’t want to see their oh-so-morally-superior yet posh lifestyle disturbed. She represents their interests quite well.

I was speaking with a very informed individual the other day who is getting back into politics after a lot of time spent in out of it. He is basically a high level political analyst and we were talking about issues that GOTV and climate change is looking like the number one motivator that is driving 18 to 40 to the polls.
I think this is why Pelosi had to do something even if her and other’s corporate donors are surely pushing them all to sugar coat any climate change action. It is weak, but voters who are going to be impacted the greatest see this as the most urgent issue of their time. There will ultimately be consequences.

Pelosi and other Vichy Democrats would like to behave like it is still 1993 or maybe 2009. It is not. The information technology has improved so much, and more people have started paying attention, that they can no longer sweep things under their latte’ liberal rug like they used to and get away with it.

She even said democrats don’t need to change anything right after their 2016 wipe out, so why would she do anything different now, after taking back the house in 2018?
