    Progressives storm Democratic primaries
Veteran blue-state incumbents are hitting unexpected turbulence this year.

Progressive insurgents are launching challenges to Democratic members of Congress in some of the country’s bluest districts, sparked by deep frustration with the party establishment and anti-Trump anger.

Most of the challengers are long shots at the moment. But some are putting a scare into entrenched incumbents, thanks to their muscular fundraising and a message of liberal disaffection on issues including Wall Street, criminal justice reform and single-payer health care.

Several Democratic challengers have posted even stronger fundraising numbers than Bunkeddeko. In Chicago, Marie Newman outraised seven-term Rep. Dan Lipinski in the most recent quarter — $262,000 to the congressman’s $228,000 — according to Federal Election Commission figures. In New York, where 34-year-old entrepreneur Suraj Patel is taking on Rep. Carolyn Maloney, Patel reported raising nearly $550,000 over the past quarter, outraising Maloney by a factor of 4 to 1.

“This is a remarkably aware, awakened, active new generation looking at politics as not an option anymore but an obligation. I looked around and I saw a Democratic Party not doing much at all to welcome that group to the fold,” Patel told POLITICO, when asked why he decided to run.

      1. Good. Kick the crooks out. K&R

Have never voted for Carolyn Maloney though she’s my rep, and I never will.  I’ve always written in someone, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, whoever.  As of this moment, I’m on the Suraj Patel train!  It helps that he’s smoking hot too, lol – a twofer.

        33. I'm not sure yet on some of these. I just added Sander Hicks earlier…

… in the latest thread, where you can see some of the links here supporting him.

        https://jackpineradicals.com/boards/topic/2018-election-progressive-candidates-32/#post-905309

Who looks to be a more outspoken supporter of taking down the neoliberal Democratic leadership establishment than Suraj Patel does in this same race, and wikipedia and some of the ballotpedia sites have more clearer indications that Hicks is in the race.

I saw this article yesterday, and still need to study the others that aren’t on our list to see if they fit more.  I’m trying to be picky about which candidates are really more “Our Revolution” and other more progressive candidate organizations endorsed, and not former Clinton supporters that are trying to play to the Sanders crowd now without a lot of substantive speeches on where they stand on the important issues we all value here.

But the article does mention many good candidates too, and the spirit it reports here is a good message to get out to those looking for progressive change in our congress!  Just hoping that all of them they are putting forth are true to the mission we now are on.

Vote AGAINST the race to the bottom by both corporate parties who seek to screw workers over globally!

      3. Oh boy! The ratfuckers won't like this at all.

I can already see them foaming at the mouth, “blah blah republicans, blah helps the GOP, blah”. I swear ratfuckers are only one shade away from being Tea Party dumb fucks.

This is great news! Progressives are tired of the shit from BOTH sides and are doing something about it!

Tremble you ratfuckers! We will take back the party of the people!

Oh sweety, no just no, when I or those of us here talk about the ultra rich - it is NOT you! Not you by a longshot, oh my God did you think...no way you actually thought we meant you? Lord, this country is full of rich stupid people and you seem to be one of the worst. No sweety, you are just a low paid pawn to those ultra rich we talk about. They are wrecking the world, you are an enabler and I understand not being able to sleep at night. I wouldn't either, selling out our future. You have kids right?

        4. Yeah, I took a peek at that other site. They're screaming that …

… progressives should be going after Trump, not Corpo-Dems.  Sounds just like the Trumpers who say progressives should clean up the Dem party before going after Trump.

Like we can’t walk and chew gum at the same time.

          7. How many years have we been told we cannot walk and chew gum at the same time?

And when we prove it, all we get from the rats is, “you are helping the GOP, bad progressive…BAD” complete with a wack on the nose with a rolled up newspaper.

I said things will change and it will be progressives forcing the change. If the Tea Party can do it to the GOP, we progressive are more than capable in changing the Dem party for the better.

Complaints or not, the party must be reformed.

Oh sweety, no just no, when I or those of us here talk about the ultra rich - it is NOT you! Not you by a longshot, oh my God did you think...no way you actually thought we meant you? 9. Challenge back

and ask them this simple question : What has Congressperson/Senator Fuckwad done for you lately?

The true answer is: NOT A DAMN THING.

If they answer, then ask this question that will always kill the neolib supporters:

Why have we lost over 1,000 seats everywhere since 2000? Do you have a plan to stem the bleeding?

How will you stop the ongoing #DemExit?

That will always hit them with an “uh” shaped face.

              24. Uh, I think that the losses came with Obama, who would have been

“a moderate Repub back in the 1980s,” in 2008 and after:

Not to mention governors, who have veto-pens, something that Obama hardly ever used.

                36. pretty sure what happened was that the Dems, having reached

a supermajority and the WH by running as the anti-Bush, then had to govern: but Obama never had much interest in fighting Bushism (which had been so lucrative for him, especially against that Isabel Peron-like troll), let alone harming the party’s well-meaning and culturally-liberal sponsors

the Dems half-thought they’d stay in a majority for good, and half-objected to the “super” part; they slacked and did things like clear the runway for perma-losers like Coakley

Rahm was half right when he said he’d built 2006 on Blue Dogs like Heath Shuler–but that just planted the seeds for failure starting 2010 (remember their defense of ACA? “we promise not to impose the paynim Canadian system on America!”) once the luster wore off his shiniest project yet; and of course OFA basically devoured the DNC and made it need Her bailout once she decided to trigger the Corrupt Bargain she’d made 6 years before

What we must do is weed out the ratfuckers (those that would sell our primary to the highest bidder) from those that promise to work and represent us and not their own personal best interest.

          15. Wait… how are we supposed to take on Trump if we aren't

in Congress? If they want someone to do directly after Trump, then they need representatives who don’t vote to expand his surveillance capabilities or give him more war power or offer alternative policies like Medicare For All or Education For Everyone.

I swear, neoliberal logic makes no sense.
