Rahm Emanuel: Too Many Dems Care More About Being Right Than Winning
Kim JanssenContact ReporterChicago Tribune
Mayor Rahm Emanuel has warned Democrats they need to “take a chill pill” and realize that they are not going to take back national power anytime soon.
“It ain’t gonna happen in 2018,” Emanuel said Monday at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business in California. “Take a chill pill, man. You gotta be in this for the long haul.”
As he did last month at an event in Washington, D.C., the mayor expanded on what he believes is the road map back to power for his party — putting moderate candidates such as veterans, football players, sheriffs and business people up in Republican districts, picking battles with Republicans, exploiting wedges within the GOP and fighting attempts to redistrict Congress on partisan grounds.
“Winning’s everything,” he said. “If you don’t win, you can’t make the public policy. I say that because it is hard for people in our party to accept that principle. Sometimes, you’ve just got to win, OK? Our party likes to be right, even if they lose.”

7. And when the Dems DO win – they now make RW public policy, you asswipe.
All the Democratic Party is to you is a fucking vehicle to get you to where you can fuck people over. It was just easier to join and to subvert than the GOP.You think the only reason that people won't vote for a warmongering Third Way fracking-enabling cluster bomb throwing H-1B increasing lying pandering corporate and Wall Street shill who says she has no problem putting abortion rights on the table is because we are mad about Bernie? Um, nope.

17. rahm = son of a terrorist, named after a terrorist
Rahm Emanuel is his own man, with an identity distinct from his father’s. He is not responsible for the actions or opinions of Benjamin Emanuel, a Chicago pediatrician who worked in the 1940s with Irgun, the militant Zionist group that committed acts against Palestinian and British targets that have been widely categorized as terrorism. (In 1938, according to the scholar Avi Shlaim, members of the group attempted to ambush an Arab bus, an attack that failed when a grenade did not detonate. In 1946, members of the group bombed the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, killing 91 people.)
But that does not mean that Rahm Emanuel, or Barack Obama for that matter, can easily ignore the fact that Benjamin Emanuel recently said a nasty thing about Arabs in the Israeli press. This is from the Jerusalem Post’s account of an interview Benjamin gave after news of his son’s appointment to the Obama administration was announced:
In an interview with Ma’ariv, Emanuel’s father, Dr. Benjamin Emanuel, said he was convinced that his son’s appointment would be good for Israel. “Obviously he will influence the president to be pro-Israel,” he was quoted as saying. “Why wouldn’t he be? What is he, an Arab? He’s not going to clean the floors of the White House.”

The democratic party doesn’t seem to care much about “winning” either — not elections, anyway….

23. Rahm is improving.
He no longer calls us “f*cking retarded”.
That being said, his “winning is everything” credo explains so much about Third Way that he just answered a third of all good questions about *her* campaign strategy. Winning was everything, so damn the long-term prospects for the Democratic Party, damn being on the right side of history, damn fair play, …
We could apply the same explanation model to Perez’ narrow “victory”. Perez victory, Phyric victory, potaydo, potato"Someone hacks the DNC allowing all of America to see how the DNC operates as one of the most corrupt political machines in national history. Ergo, Hillary Clinton should be installed as President by judicial fiat. And if you do not agree to this scheme you deserve to be brought up on charges of treason because fascism." - NUGrrl, december 2016 “Once a person has been determined to be an UNTRUSTWORTHY LIAR, their pretend stances on important issues are simply not relevant to rational discussion.” – Ida Briggs, September 2016

24. He is exactly the problem. He is a damn partisan who merely wants power.
So no, I do not agree with him. Just from his answers where he wishes to concentrate on schisms, that winning is everything.
Winning is not everything when you lose your soul. Because if you win, but you were the monster you were fighting against, then what’s the damn point?
That is what the Democratic Party has forgotten. They try to win with everything they can, doing every single corrupting influence, whoring themselves to corporate donors(yes, that description is apt), where in the end, they do the same exact things that they said they would fight against.
It could work for the short-term, but after a while, when they have lost their soul which has become very apparent, people can see that. I guess the Democrats make me angrier because with Republicans, it is accepted that they will try to screw the workers no matter what, Democrats talk but act the same way which makes them hypocrites.

31. rahm is just a continuation of the chicago machine — not sure what
you’re referring to.
Five years ago Chicagoans took a gamble. Their departing mayor had devastated City Hall’s financial future. Nobody wanted to predict the service cuts and higher taxation that his successor would have to impose. But an abundance of voters wanted Chicago fixed. So they elected a man who talked tough — and seemed to talk straight — to lead them across the broken glass left from Richard M. Daley’s ruinous stewardship.Rahm Emanuel didn’t blame Daley; Chicago may have nonpartisan mayoral elections, but Emanuel and Daley come from the same Democratic tribe that has dominated this city’s governance for much of a century.
Despite his cheeky image, Emanuel is an organization man, through and through. A devoted Machine Guy. In 2002, when other Clinton Administration veterans were overreaching by running for governor or senator, Emanuel took the humbler step of running for Congress. Daley endorsed him, sending in the South Side heavies to hand out palm cards on Election Day.
The mayor owed him one. When Daley ran for his first full term as mayor, in 1989, Emanuel was his chief fundraiser, raising $7 million in just 13 weeks.
In 2008, Emanuel set aside his dream of becoming speaker of the house to go to work as Obama’s chief of staff, giving Chicago one more (loud) voice inside the White House.
That’s not a guy who’s going to mount an insurgent, independent campaign.
This would be a perfect time for Emanuel to take over, too. With Obama likely to stay in office until 2017, Emanuel would be the most connected mayor in America.
