What Manchin is saying this morning is what the GOP Trumpster Senators should state TODAY agreeing about who the Dems want for witnesses. If during this trial there’s enough allegations/evidence that surfaces against Hunter Biden, then a separate investigation should pursue Biden by the AG. It doesn’t matter that most Republicans scream about the Bidens involvement in Ukraine because they already have been and are screaming about it anyways. The Bidens is a SEPERATE MATTER!!! Trump clearly screwed up when holding up aid for Ukraine in exchange for a Ukrainian investigation into the Bidens. That’s what this impeachment trial is all about!!

Sen. Joe Manchin, a Democrat from a red state, told CNN that the Senate should allow Justice John Roberts to determine which witnesses are pertinent — and he said that if Hunter Biden is one of those people, then he should be called to testify.

“I want witnesses. I definitely want witnesses. The only thing I’ve said is that there should be an adult in the room and that’s Chief Justice Roberts. We should vote again on Chief Justice Roberts being able to determine who is pertinent… if Hunter Biden is one of the people who is pertinent to the evidence or to the trial then absolutely,” Manchin said.

Irrelevant except to show the kind of “retail corruption” that is legal and rampant among elites.  I think almost all congress critters do this kind of thing.

I don’t see the problem. Its not really a trial if only one side can call witnesses. But the Democrats seem to want to limit the list the other side can call.

Look there is zero chance Bolton will be permitted to testify if the GOP can’t call Hunter Biden. That’s just reality.

Biden and Trump did the same thing. They both held aid to Ukraine hostage for personal gain.  The only difference is Biden succeeded.

I wonder how the vote blue no matter who folks are taking this. I would expect they are ignoring it.

Not only should they ask Hunter Biden to testify, but they should also indict him on corruption and throw him in jail with Trump and Joe Biden as cell mates.  Hillary can also be added to the list.

Ruh-roh, that helps in providing the cover of plausibility to the threat from some Republicans to demand Hunter Biden get subpoenaed. And it cranks up pressure on the Republicans who do want witnesses, but think calling Hunter Biden unwise (for their election prospects). Much harder to face the Republican base after voting “No” on Hunter if a Democrat voted “Yes”.

Manchin might have just earned a sentence or two of praise from Trump, and if he helped scuttle any witnesses getting called, or compelled Hunter actually getting called, then he might rest easy from worries of his Senate seat being a priority for Trump to reclaim.

Sanders isn’t petty and vindictive, Trump is, so this might be the smart bet for him to make.

P.S. What the pundit class seems to forget is that the majority of voters don’t really know how tawdry the whole matter of banking on Joe Biden’s name is. Certainly not those who only listen to MSNBC and CNN.

Even if Biden pleads his Fifth Amendment rights, a whole lot of swing voters get to hear about the Biden families business dealings. And there’s more than just Hunter. Also, even if Bernie is the nominee, tarnishing Joe Biden makes Trump look less venal, in what he did regarding Ukraine, in the eyes of some swing voters.

And Hunter seems either to know something we don’t, or he’s amazingly clueless as to how badly his lifestyle reflects on Joe’s decisions to boost his profile. Drawing attention to that is going to have an effect.

Your points are valid. However, whatever may come to surface about the Bidens (of which it will anyways the closer it gets to the 2020 election) doesn’t negative political findings about the Bidens and their adventures in Ukraine mainly fall blame with Obama during and after? Many Republicans have and will continue to slash Obama at the drop of the hat. So, their actions has nothing to do with Bernie or with most Dem candidates running for president. Those voters who are sitting on the fence should understand that honesty lies with Bernie and dishonesty greatly lies with Trump regardless of any BidenGate follies in the past. Maybe I find too much importance that justice should always rule regardless these stupid political powerplay games. It’s my belief that voters appreciate justice over party spin. I could be wrong.

Hardly a surprise that Manchin wants what the GOP wants. I would trade testimony from Hunter for Bolton’s in a heartbeat. Something tells me that Trump and the GOP don’t want Bolton under ANY circumstances.

National issues (slavery/racism, income inequality, pandemics and pathetic health care, weak unions) are not solved with more states' rights. Global problems (climate change, migration, trade, war, pandemics) are not solved with more nationalism.

Bolton could have laid a self serving trap for everyone, and he won’t dramatically piss off anyone, he’ll just get enthusiasm up to buy his book so as to learn more. Lol, nobody should think he’d be above that.

This will be a stand-off. Reps don’t want Bolton, Dems

don’t want any Biden. My guess is come Friday the show

      will close.
