Over 70 percent of Americans want a national health care system like every other developed country in the world has, but the GOP tells us that we just aren’t smart enough to make it work. It’ll be too confusing and complex for average Americans, they say, and, besides that, if the government “takes over” our health care system, we’re on our way to tyranny.
“All things that have been done by most if not all of the fully developed countries in the world—Republicans tell us we just can’t do those things here in America. We’re just not that intelligent.”
About two-thirds of Americans think that we should have free college education for anybody intellectually capable of attending, and free trade schools as well—like pretty much every other developed country in the world (and quite a few of the developing countries). Republicans tell us that we can’t use government funds to pay off our nation’s $1.5 trillion in student debt because we just borrowed that exact amount last year to give tax rebates to billionaires, so there’s nothing left. We’re just not smart enough to fix the problem.

This is a good article to post; I like how it make clear that there are many policies the US people are united or close to united on, but we’ll never get from the current political system. However, I don’t agree with Thom Hartmann that everything is the fault of Republicans. True, they are often more obvious, or perhaps honest, but Democrats fight just as hard for their billionaire donors, and just as hard against progressives.

Confusing? Complex? Under a single payer system, you just show your Medicare card and you don’t have to worry about paying the bill or a copay. What’s so complicated about that?
Yet another contemptible lie from the right.

The only thing confusing and complex is how the health insurance companies will/can continue to milk their premium payers to death.
We are an arrogant species, believing our fantasy based "facts" are better than the other person's fake facts.
If you are wrong, it will be because you are not cynical enough.
Both major political parties are special interest groups enabling each other for power and money, at the expense of the people they no longer properly serve…

Sorry you are only half right. Reagan broke the Air Controllers Union, Started “Trickle Down” economics and closed
the mental hospitals throwing patients out on the streets. Bill is just a paedo-come-lately

“…proclaims it as reparations for black slavery”
WTF?
If you give a man enough rope, it will be six inches too short. This is not the nature of rope- it is the nature of man.
