Salmon Feared Dead On US West Coast

    March 21, 2017 – Sean Adl-Tabatabai

According to The California Department of Fish and Wildlife, preliminary data from the Sacramento River indicates that salmon runs have dropped to record low levels.

Enenews.com reports: “Most catastrophic fisheries collapse in history” expected along West Coast — Official: “This is a nightmare, I have never in my life dreamed that it could get this bad” — Threat of “coast-wide fishing failure” (VIDEO)

The Oregonian: Worst Klamath chinook run on record forecast — The worst run forecast on record for the Klamath River’s chinook salmon could close all salmon fishing along most of the Oregon Coast this summer…

Mendocino Beacon: Returns of spawning Klamath River fall Chinook are projected to be the lowest on record in 2017… “The salmon runs this year will present a challenge for ocean fishermen and managers throughout the West Coast,” said Executive Director Chuck Tracy… “the low forecast for Klamath River fall Chinook is unprecedented”… “This year will be an exceptionally difficult year for ocean salmon fisheries, especially in Oregon and California”… said Council Chair Herb Pollard.

Juneau Empire: Spring king fishing canceled by emergency order… the Juneau area will be closed for king salmon fishing… biologists expect a second-straight year of record-low king salmon returns on the Taku River. “We’ve been in a period of low productivity, not just on the Taku, but on several rivers up and down the coast,” Juneau Area Management Biologist Daniel Teske said… Nobody knows exactly why Southeast king salmon are struggling, but biologists do know where the fish are being affected: in the ocean… The increased die-off must be happening in a marine environment, Teske said, otherwise numbers on the four rivers wouldn’t fall at the same time…

naturalnews.com: Mar 26, 2017 – (Natural News) If you are a salmon lover, you may have to cut back on … of Fish and Wildlife, salmon runs have dropped to record levels. … who expects a second-straight year of record-low salmon returning to their birthplace.

Undercurrent News: Japanese salmon fisheries in historic collapse — Landings in Hokkaido, Japan are the lowest in nearly three decades, reports the blog RussGeorge.net. The volume of salmon caught at main fishing ports, including Hokkaido, plunged 30-40% in 2016 from the previous year. The figure represented the lowest level in 28 years. The collapse has been confidently attributed to the starvation of four-year-old Chum salmon…

      2. The salmon have caught the gay

They have sinned and are not following God’s word to be fruitful and multiply.

      3. We don't know what it all is yet..but, we do know that

there’s a huge disruption in the ecosystem given the increase in Droughts,Rain Bomb’s and “out of season” Tornadoes and Straight Wind alerts.

Weather changes are everywhere across the globe and what used to be outlier weather events becoming more frequent in the past decade.  They will always pull up statistics to try to disprove it but those who’ve been on this earth awhile notice the difference.

It’s still important to pay attention to the increasing signs that our planet is under terrible stress.  The bombings in the Middle East also should be looked at as increasing Climate Change with the devastation and chemicals they leave behind.  Oil Spills, Nuclear Leaks and Flooding are causingpollution in areas that grow crops, graze animals and supply water to thousands.  Technology can’t keep up with this and there is little Federal Money to combat it.

        5. fukushima radiation level increases are not even mentioned

… yet, we know they are present.

          9. My guess is that this tragedy has Fukushima as a contributing factor.

The radiation is already responsible for deaths of some cetaceans whose lungs show symptoms of radiation poisoning.

The world needs to marshal its forces and seal Fukushima – it’s a worldwide catastrophe and we can’t afford to let the Japanese ineffectual actions  continue.

              17. One can almost feel the earth herself crying out. More species are going

extinct at the present time then at any comparable period in the past 65 million years. Horrible and depressing and ordinary people can live a respectful life and yet have little impact on this when those who profit by global monopoly capital earn their billions by trashing the earth and its inhabitants.

          12. Yes Fukushima completely ignored, even when examining/reporting on dead fish

is more than a little fishy journalism in my view.  Completely irresponsible.

As if they are saying “Gee, what a mystery .. all these dead fish?”   and they can’t really believe that, they can’t be totally ignorant about the Fuk radiation in the Pacific .. can they?

          10. Food supply is critical and already

a decline is showing up in quality, taste and availability of our veggies.   Even growing them yourself is a problem with the severe weather events we are experiencing.  Hurricane Matthew this past year flooded farms in the South and many of them were new organic farmers in the “Food to Table” movement trying to bring fresh and healthy ingredients to local restaurants and farm stands.

Severe flooding from Hurricane Matthew this past year also killed chickens and turkeys in NC “Factory Farms.” The Governor of NC mentioned what he called “devastation” in his address but we never got the total numbers that were drowned.

There’s little follow up reporting on aftermath of the floods in the Midwest and rivers that overflow carrying pollutants into farmland or even the aftermath of the Dakota Freezes a few years ago that killed thousands of cattle and our beef prices have been sky high since.

There is little to no follow up reporting on any long term of effects of the degradation of the quality of the land from weather events by our MSM because all of our MSM is owned by Oligarchs who have no interest in it and the Agri-Business Giants who want to make sure that any news that could harm their Business Interests will need to be censored.

        8. Yes! and the recent Spikes

in detected radiation at the Daichi nuclear site has been beyond scary and am sure most of the real findings are being brushed under the rug. The shit’s only going to get way worse.

      13. We were warned the repercussions of Fukushima would be seen on the West Coast,

there’s no mystery, only the bigger question remains as to why Fukushima is not being addressed by an internat’l effort.  This is suicidal, which part of the ecosystem will be left UNaffected?

        14. Fukushima is an ongoing daily disaster & should be covered as such and, as you

say, this demands an international effort. As to why it is not being addressed, Obama, for one, did absolutely nothing; he did less than nothing to the extent he kept an international effort from being organized.

It’s now Trump who is doing nothing.

Our hope is that the impacted west coasts of Canada & the USA will make this an issue and the American Indians with treaty rights bring it to the attention of the United Nations, which I understand they can do.

Our political class and the corporatists that support it are enemies of the earth.

          16. further – the epa is censored and blocked

from reporting any results, studies, data and of environmental topics – and they are in fact, on order to be destroyed.

there is so much we are fighting to hold on to – beginning with freedom of speech – and against (a militarized fascist state) that the increasing threat of radiation poisoning of our food chain and the entire earth is looming – but we are too overwhelmed to respond. we need an army of flanks addressing the preponderance of issues. the din of critical issues is resounding – making it harder for us to hear one another.

            18. I agree. Even Sanders does not mention the human caused disruption of the

earth’s metabolism and he’s the best politician with a national following. The person, 5 years ago, who gave fake bids on oil leasing on public lands got jail – environmental criminals get multi-millions of dollars.

The cultural materialist school of Anthropology points out that their field research and analyses of hundreds of cultures shows that how a society treats females depends on ecological constraints and the degree of militarization(skirmishing in traditional tribal societies, last seen in New Guinea and the Amazon). The anthropologists have correctly predicted the degree of oppression in unstudied groups given the broad ecological data). In order for all people with a society to be treated equally, militarization needs to be kept to a minimum and the society needs to be based on a sustainable agriculture. It’s the women who perform sustainable agriculture in many parts of Africa and South America that are in the gunsights of global industrial agriculture who turn people off their land and replace organic farming with plantation-type farming for the export market. This leaves the area, the country in many instances, food insecure and food, of lesser quality and higher price, must be imported while palm oil(say) or mangos(say) are exported along with the soil nutrients that have been nurtured over the centuries. The farmers only option to stay alive is to migrate to cities to serve as casual labor in shanty towns.

      19. The kings have been struggling for a while,

but at least in Alaska, the sockeye runs have been great over the past few years.  Up here a lot of the kings have been thrown out as bycatch by the pollock trawlers in the Bering Sea.
