Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is frustrated by the Democratic presidential primary debates, saying that the spectacle of 20 candidates agitating for time plays to their worst instincts and is “demeaning” to the field of contenders.

Speaking on the “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, Sanders said “you shouldn’t even call them a debate.”

“What they are is a reality tv show in which you have to come up with a soundbite and all that stuff,” he said. “It’s demeaning to the candidates and it’s demeaning to the American people. You can’t explain the complexity of health care in America in 45 seconds, nobody can.”

The Vermont senator, who is in second place behind former Vice President Joe Biden in many national and early-voting state polls, acknowledged that the Democratic National Committee (DNC) “is in a difficult position” trying to accommodate the two dozen candidates running for the party’s nomination.

But he said the current format encourages the candidates to stand out with outrageous soundbites in an effort to earn media attention.

Indeed. Of course, the DNC designed it this way because bullshit and smears are all that’s left in the Vichy Democrat arsenal. I’m not worried, though; the next “debate” will be down to just one night, I hope, and Bernie’s got the ground game.

Hopefully, when the field is winnowed down to 2 or 3 candidates the debates will be less chaotic, less advertising, more substantial, than what we have endured thus far.

What will be interesting is who the rejected wannabes endorse when they bow out.

IMO the final 3 will be Biden, Warren, and Sanders.    At least according to the polls I’ve been watching.

Well, Mr. Barbarian, consider this post a rec since I totally agree with you and Bernie!  I’m furious that idiots like Delaney, Hickenlooper and DeBlasio got on stage, and Mike Gravel was excluded.  Too many took of too much space and time who never had a chance.  AND THEY KNEW IT!

I agree with many comments in this thread. Also ….. this truly shows just how whacky the DNC is as well. It’s bad enough the circus act that we’re put through by the Right party and now the Left party. When it gets down to 5 remaining performers, we might see something worthwhile.
